At anyrate..here goes the tournament report...
It was a wierd tournament...points were allocated for each win, not each round.
Round one...vs U/W color hoser deck. This deck was a real pain in the ass to play with. Light of days, Chills and Warmths came out and along with Pendrell Mists and Propagandas made it an entirely creature hostile enviroment. Fortunately, my opponent ran out of counterspells halfway through midgame and could counter my disks, drainlifes and haunting misery..won 3-0...thats 9 points.
Round two...vs a mediocre sligh deck. Ironclaw orcs and blah blah blah. I blew everything away with a disk, did a 7 point drain life and haunting misery for 8. Second match, I went even faster. Hidden Horrors pummeled him to doom. Third match was close, After miscalculating, he dealt me 14 points of damage in one turn, two incinerates and two fireblasts. Thank God for bottle gnomes. Kept me alive for two more turns, which was enough to drain him for 6 and take him down with 3 dauthi slayers.
Round three..vs Monastery Deck. Played my mate Gib...poor dude...nothing much he could do actually. First turn vampire bat. Second turn, swamp, dark ritual , dark ritual and Commander Greven. Dead in three turns. Same thing for round two, I had a horror and a knight out early in play. He managed to get the humility out, but could not find the orim's prayer nor his enlightened tutors, despite the scroll rack. I concede the third game, to let him have 3 points. I'm now at 8-1..thats 24 points.
Round four vs U/G Tradewind/Elf combo. By now, I was leading my group and word had spread around that necropotence was rearing its ugly head again. My opponent...poor chap...mana screwed for both matches. First round he got one green land to play with...and the next round, he got one blue land with 3 birds of paradise in his hand. The third game...we had a fairly decent game, and it was my turn to get screwed for mana. At anyrate..I won 2-1, albeit luckily.
Round five...vs 3CB. I hate those multicolor decks. The one mistake I made was not metagaming for multicolor decks. I knew I should have sideboarded in Wastelands. Anyway..I took the first game pretty easily. Second game was close, we traded blow for blow, and I lost out to the fact that he had the ability to pull out creature after creature after creature, while i had a severe problem getting other types of cards other than drain lifes and bottle gnomes. The third round was pretty similar...no creatures while he was killing me off with Kezzerdrixes , Horrors and Barrow Ghouls. I lost 2-1...now at 11-4.
Final game....against a 5CW. Another multi color. Needless to say, it had gerry's wisdom, armageddons, earthquakes, thumbscrews, incinerates and wall of roots. I'm starting to get pissed off. Anyway...I lose the first game horribly, take the second game, and third game was a close one...light of day out, bottle gnomes out, and 9 creatures in my graveyard. I was pounding away, hitting one damage at a time, while he was dealing me 2 each turn from thumbscrews. I had 6 more life, he had like 12..soo he earthquake me for 6, sacked the gnomes to be at three, next turn, haunting misery. I win 2-1..I'm through the qualifying.
By now...my mates were telling me that my version of Hackerpotence (They were calling it NecROYpotence) was strong enough to demolish the entire block of control players. Admittedly, my deck would roll over a stompy, sligh and a control. But against multicolour decks I was facing a huge huge problem.
NEXT DAY:
Final 32....my first round..of all the porbable decks to meet..I meet a 5CB. Thats it. Out. First match I cream him silly. Next match, he sideboards his ENTIRE sideboard in. And comes up with a COP black. ARGH. Then...he comes up with Knight of the Mists. No problem yet...I disk the board, and play a horror. He brings out a man owar. Bring out another disk. Uktabi Orangutan. Final kill? 3 Incinerates. The last game was a walk through...he plowed through me, and earthquaked me for three. Thats it. I'm out of the tournament.
My mate who is playing a white weenie is still in, but did not make it pass the quaters. When I saw the final four match up, I wanted to cry. One stompy, One humility deck, One stasis and One tradewind/elf deck. With the exception of the tradewind/elf....I woulda ran through the rest. Sigh....Next time, I am putting Wastelands in my Main board.
