The Mountain Regionals were held at the Regency Inn and drew 80 players, including a strong contigent from Colorado Springs, and players from as far away as Wyoming and Utah (fortunately Jack Stanton stayed away). The event was smoothly run by Eric Smith with help from D.J. (D.J.'s Cards, he's the guy on the Loadstone Bauble), and Carl Blockhardt. Top sixteen looked like this: 1. BigBlue: Man'o-War, Elemental, Efreet, Djinn, counters. - Jason Schickli 2. BigBlue/Red: Djinn, Drake, Fire Diamonds, Earthquakes, counters. - Taylor Buckingham 3. Bigblue: Walls. - Nick Floyd 4. B/W Flyers: Falcon, ghost, shadow, gargoyle, disenchant, TOST, Pox. - Allen Martin 5. BigBlue: Walls. - Lance Tokuda 6. B/u: Knights, Man'o-War, choking sands (the answer to Quicksand). - Eric Kirkman 7. R/G: PCL'ish: Ants, Emissary, Boa, Crumble, Burn. - O'Dwyer 8. BigBlue: SnakeBasket. - Josh Knapper 9. BigBlue 10. Black Weenie/Pox 11. R/G/w: PCL'ish w/Armageddon's. 12. R/G 13. R/G 14. R/G 15. BigBlue 16. R/W The only really different deck (not discussed on the net), was the 4th place finisher. Looking at the deck I realized that it was quite a stroke of genius. All flyers would render the early Quicksand pointless, all flyers hurt the blue offense, discard (and POX) hurt blue, lotsa black creature removal hurt R/G, TOST hurt white elimination and blue, disenchants were rarely wasted, quite effective. No one really caught onto the FlexBlue. The second place deck was well rounded with efficient red critter removal and a fireball for a finisher. Most brilliant sideboard move was by the second place deck, four DanDan's. Deck listing for first place finisher (Jason Schickli): 20 islands 3 quicksands 3 thawing glaciers 3 waterspout djinns 1 air elemental 3 azimaet drakes 4 cloud elementals 2 man O' wars 4 dissipates 4 Force of wills 4 Counter spells 4 rainbow efreets 2 Nevinyrral's disks 1 snake basket 1 flood 1 flooded shoreline sideboard: 3 hydroblasts 2 disks 1 snake basket 1 flood 1 flooded shoreline 2 disrupting scepters 1 desertion 3 knights of mist 1 energy flux
