As the Australians are one the first in the world to have the prerelease due to the dateline their was only a partial list on the net. So having prepared and after my success at prerelease’s going 3rd 1st 3rd in the last three prerelease’s I had a tradition to upkeep. The deck I opened was pretty good with some really good creatures with a good mana base and 2 broken cards but very little removal. Made one mistake in building the deck as It needed the endless scream in the deck but I always try not to play with creature enchantment’s if I can get away with it. The Deck 1 Rampant Growth 2 Avenging Druid’s (Awesome one of the best cards in my deck.) 2 Rabid Wolverines (Really good fat plus useful ability) 1 Wood Elves (Cool really good with helm) 1 pygmy Troll (hold of weenie rush) 1 Spike Hatcher (6.6 regenerating spike guy) 1 harrow ( enabled double blue and the second black) 1 overrun Brookeenn 1 charging rhino 1 trained armadon 1 seeker of skybreak (great with stolen Tradewinds) 1 skyshroud troll 1 patchwork gnomes 1 helm of possession (for stealing Tradewinds) 1 cat burgler (disrupting scepter) 1 ertai wizard edept (the other part of the disprupting sceptre lock thanks wiseman)[ dauthi mercanary (the one shadow) 1 coercion (the other creature kill) 1 evincars justice 1 edict 1 ephemeron 1 thalakos dreamsower 3 islands 4 swamps 9 forests As to the land It played really well as I rarely got badly mana screwed but even af I did it usually didn’t hurt me that bad. I got mana screwed in two games out of 21 all day. Mainly due to paris. Once was against james crockhart where I had two forests a harrow and a trained armadon in hand but I stick at two forests and he abandoned hopes me for 3 and kills the harrow and the armadon and I die to a weenie onslaught and against doecke where I draw 5 spells and about 10+ land and get mashed. The side was white with a whole bunch of circles and endless scream which I sided in against those with little removal or those with fast beatdown type decks. Should have been in the deck but the black was a problem and I had fuck all removal. Power sink sided in almost every game for broken shit as 5 of 7 people I played had a thunder so In came the power sink for ertai. Bequethal sided in once against a deck of almost purely creature removal reclaim carophage for those playing weenie grollub for those playing fat The day most mostly of little interest except for the fact I died to a tradewind once and I killed two people with their tradewinds in three games. I disrupting sceptre locked two people and had against Barry his tradewind the disrupting sceptre and ertai and enough mana and creatures to power it all. He ended the game with no permanaents on the table Cool! The tournament was decided when I played Doecke in the 6th round. The first game was really close when the deciding moment happened. Anyway I’m on 5 he’s on 4 after an overrun he has a seismic assault on the table for a long time a darkling stalker and a regenerating licid I have a rabid wolverine and a stolen alligator in play. He only has enough mana to regenerate the stalker and move the licid once. I had an evincars justice in hand and was unable to buy it back. The question is If I cast it he can kill me with seismic assault but it will kill me eventually anyway. I decided to cast it the option was to cast it first regenerate the alligator tap, his creeatures and hope he doesn’t have a land in hand or I could attack get him to regenerate both his creature then cast evincars hope he doesn’t kill the wombats and that he has no creatures in his hand. I took the gamble he didn’t have a land in his hand and died because of it. The reason I took the amble was the longer the game went on the more likely it was that he would win as the siesmic assault will kill me. Anyway I end up going 17-4 as it was done by game and come second to doecke who went 18-3 so he wins to mayor events in a row. I only get ½ a box for coming second which is absoloute garbage considering it was a 70+ people event. I think the tournament organiser only gave away the stock that was given as prize support. I think I shall run the next one and give decent prizes as their was only prizes down to 4th and they were all below average. Tool!
