ScrollBurn - Doug Hyatt

November Semifinalists

Notes: This deck won a Tempest constructed tournament in Knoxville, TN, Nov. 97. It is a basic red Sligh deck with some strong additions-- Pallimud (always seems to get big when combined with a weenie assault), Sandstone Warrior (basically a Dragon Whelp), and Cursed Scroll (the most powerful card in the deck late game, capable of doing obscene amounts of damage... a rival to the Hammer of Bogardan in regular Sligh decks.) Play of the deck is simple; just overwhelm your opponent with weenies and blow up their creatures with your burn. Use the scroll and searing touch late game for the kill. Sideboarding strategies: Against white and blue, sideboard out the wastelands, 4 mountains, the rolling thunder, sandstone warrior, and searing touches; bring in 4 mogg hollows, 4 forests, 4 tranquilities. If you can stop chill and cop:red, you're pretty much set. Against an enemy mono-color deck with wastelands, you can sideboard out your wastelands for forests so their wastelands will have no targets. The deck is very fast, and has beaten quite a few good type II decks (the cursed scroll wrecks counter decks.)
