Subject: Bad Memories Deck Date: 28 Sep 97 19:38:44 GMT From: sjb31@ibm.net Newsgroups: rec.games.trading-cards.magic.strategy This is a deck I've been working on for a while and it has really come together nicely. It's strong enough to be competitive in type 2 & especially MVW type 2 tournaments. The deck is based on forcing your opponent to continually redraw the same cards over and over which effectively shuts down his ability to respond to you. The basic deck is below. You might alter the mana to taste (I don't have any artifact mana in there at the moment for example) and there is room to change much of it around if you prefer to alter some aspect of it. Current deck: 4 Agonizing Memories 4 Painful Memories 4 Memory Lapses 4 Ether Well 4 Foreshadow 4 Nekrataal 4 Man-o-war 2 Ophidian 1 Waterspout Djinn 2 Jalum Tome (substitute Unfufilled Desires for MVW) 4 Counterspell (a variety of possible substitutions for MVW - use judgement) 2 Dark Ritual 7 Island 7 Swamp 2 Thawing Glaciers (sub Bad River for MVW) 4 Gemstone Mine Sideboard: Don't have one yet. Definitely stuff to deal with celerity-burn which is this deck's biggest problem but it's mostly up to you. The whole goal is to use the various memory cards to shut off your opponent's ability to draw new cards. Ether Well should usually be played in response to an attack rather than during your turn. Foreshadow is awesome for drawing cards and getting rid of real problem cards since you usually know what he is going to draw next and plus it replaces all the cards you use. The deck doesn't really need all that much mana to operate and thus there is a relatively low percentage of mana. In fact even with this amount of mana there often is a man glut in mid game. Jalum Tomes are there to help work through this and keep the pressure on. Don't worry about summoning creatures early except to keep him from beating you with his. The use for Man-o-war and Nekrataal is obvious. Waterspout is there because he is big. I use the Gemstone Mines because they allow more flexibility in sideboarding. You can put COP:Red and Disempower as well as other useful offcolor stuff. Give the deck a try and feel free to alter it since it is by no means a finished project. It's actually quite fun to play too, though perhaps not for your opponent. :-) Stacy John Behrens
