Subject: Coffee, sir? Date: Wed, 19 Aug 98 15:55:14 -0500 From: jason_mogavero@frontiercorp.com To: Get it? Coffee? Awakening? Hah. Ahem. Anyway. I think someone has probably posted a similar deck a while back, but I've got this sucker down to a science and figure I'll share with everyone else. Here's the deck: 4 Awakening (crazy bounce and card drawing machine) 4 Capsize (boing) 4 Sapphire Medallion (el cheapo combo) 4 Wall of Blossoms (hide yourself, draw a card) 4 Propaganda (protect yourself against sligh, SB, WW, (sliver, etc) 4 Counterspell (i say thee nay) 4 Dismiss (I say thee nay and I get a card, too, jerky) 2 Forbid (works great when you get the card drawing engine (going) 2 Whispers of the Muse (I put in two kinds of card drawing to help 2 Treasure Trove (protect the enging from hand destruction or (disenchants...either way you'll have (something left.) 1 Natures Revolt (the kill card) 2 Grindstone (the other kill card, if they manage to get out a (ton of critters that you can't bounce) 12 Islands 8 Forests 3 Green/Blue multiland thingies (i forgot the name, I'm a burnout, so sue me) Ok, this is a pretty straight forward deck to play, but it can be kinda hard if you've never played this kind of deck before. I highly recommend getting some friends together and playing this deck a LOT before you go entering it into any tournies. Play some single player, too, because you'll get a big head of your shoulders if you only play multiplayer. (This deck absolutely eats up everyone in multiplayer) The basic combo comes from the the awakening/capsize or awakening/whispers-or-treasuretrove synergy. As you may or may not know, awakening untaps all creatures and lands during each players' upkeep. Therefore, hypothetically speaking, let's say you have 2 awakenings, 2 sapphire medallions, and 8 land on the table, and a capsize and whispers in your hand. All your land is untapped. At the end of your opponent's turn, capsize with buyback 2 of his permanents. (probably land...if they have critters, start capsizing land if you have a propaganda out...makes the critters useless) At the beginning of your upkeep, before you play the 1st awakening's effect, capsize 2 more. Untap for awakening. Capsize 2 more. Untap for second awakening. Draw. Capsize 2 more. Untap your land for the 1st awakening during their upkeep. Capsize 2 more. Untap for 2nd awakening. Capsize one more, leaving 4 mana for counter spells. Not that they're going to be casting anything.....you've just returned 11 permanents to his hand, and if you focused on land, the best thing he can do is lay a swamp and dark ritual out a creature, which you can always just capsize. (along with the swamp he put out) Be cruel for as long as you feel like, then, using the immense card drawing engine, get yourself your nature's revolt or a grindstone. Be careful not to deck yourself. I almost lost because nature's revolt was the last card in my deck and he snuck a couple shattering pulses through on my grindstones way back before I got the combo rolling. You might ask why I don't have any tradewind riders in here. Well, I'm a little sensitive about that subject, ok? I don't have any. I've opened 2 1/2 boxes of tempest, and I've never opened up a scroll, rider, reflecting pool, vineyard, meditate, or timewarp. Never a single one. I've had to trade for or buy all the ones I have. I can't tell you how many freakin Amoks and Soltari Emissaries I have though. Anyway, enjoy the deck. It's really competitive, and a lot fo fun to play. -Jason forkboy@rochester.rr.com
