PT-Chicago:  Team Pheonix Report (#1)

Since PT-Chicago is only Rath Cycle, that limits the field tremendoesly.  The absense of cursed scrolls makes Suicide Black and Sleigh options that may yield lower performance.  We have been testing with two decks so far, Suicide Black and Sleigh.  Others on the drawing board are White Weenie, we suspect to be most powerful, and counterhell, a black-blue deck that can reek havoc on many deck archetypes.
Phoenix Suicide
4 x Sarcomancy
4 x Carnophage
4 x Dauthi Slayer
4 x Dauthi Horror
1 x Plague Bearer
1 x Watch Dog
2 x Foul Imps

3 x Bottomless Pit
1 x Torture Chamber
4 x Diabolic Edict
2 x Cannabalize
3 x Spinal Graft
2 x Null Brooch
2 x Mox Diamond
4 x Dark Ritual

17 x Swamps
2 x Stalking Stones

This deck has a very solid creature swarm.  The Spinal Graft and Cannabalize are both questionable cards.  The Spinal Graft can issue a faster beatdown to a tapped out opponent and the Cannabalize can kill fatties and Tradewinds and with the Graft, kill the target of the counters, or better yet let it get edicted.  The only very noticable problem is that if a White Weenie opponent plays a Light of Day, you could be in some deep trouble.  The deck does offer some protection from that with possible first turn pits.

Phoenix Sleigh
4 x Raging Goblin
4 x Mogg Flunkies
4 x Mogg Fanatic
4 x Fireslinger
4 x Jackal Pup
3 x Starke of Rath
1 x Rathi Dragon

3 x Shock
4 x Kindle
2 x Sonic Blast
1 x Torture Chamber
1 x Maniacal Rage
1 x Seismic Assault
2 x Spellshock
2 x Goblin Bombardment

18 x Mountain
2 x Wasteland

Another solid speed deck.  You see one Seismic Assault because getting two can slow down the deck to much.  With Goblin Bombardment, which is far more flexible, you can end a game faster, or use the Starke as a one damage and a creature or artifact destruction i.e. Null Brooch, Tradewinds, or fatties.

In both of these decks we have been fumbling around the idea of splashing blue with Rootwater Depths or Caldera Lakes.  Using blue gives you the power of Whim of Volrath which can really hurt your opponent.  Oh...lets whim the Light of Day to white :).  It can easily be worked into both decks.  The suicide black already has the Mox Diamonds to help.  For the sleigh we are considering taking one or both of the Wastelands out and adding lakes and most likely one Mox Diamond.  This may require taking out the Seismic Assault, but CoPs are a serious problem.
