Wizards of the Coast® Customer Service is frequently asked this question; we hope that the following statement will explain why it is not appropriate for us to have a price guide on our website (or anywhere else).
Wizards of the Coast doesn't recognize the value of individual cards; we are legally bound by current U.S. trade laws from getting involved with the after-market selling, pricing, or trading of boxes, sets, or individual cards. "After-market" is defined as any purchase of cards after they are sold to our primary distributors--including purchases by retailers and by you, the customer. As far as Wizards of the Coast is concerned, each card has a value equal to what it cost to print it at the time.
Also, we are frequently asked why the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) on our products sometimes states one price while retailers charge another, often higher, price. Why do we allow this to happen? Simply put, Wizards of the Coast does not force retailers to charge certain prices, because it would be illegal to do so. Antitrust laws prohibit companies from fixing or setting prices for their products. Instead, competition and the free market determine a product's sale price.
If you want a price guide, try picking up one of the various trading-card magazines. These magazines usually have a number of mail-order businesses that sell single cards and whole boxes directly to the public. Most of them also list prices for single cards (each magazine has its own methods of arriving at the single-card prices it lists; many of them average the prices from surveys of selected retailers). Remember, Wizards of the Coast in no way provides or endorses the prices listed in these trade magazines.
