I (Duffy) rode up with Hadji, Erin, and Adrian. Zade couldnt make it after coming back from PT ROME because of that responsibility thing. Oh well. We arrive around 8:00am and I sit down to have the worst ready-made sandwich I ever ate in my life. Oh well. Then I go to get my deck and realize, "$%!^, I forgot my deck. Hadji, the god that he is, decides to let me use his deck and he plays counterpheonix. What a guy. :P I didnt write down names, but Ill tell you the people I rember. ROUND 1 0-0-0 Counterpheonix/Acrane Lab Normaly when I enter a official tourney, I get paired up with "bad" players because my rating is crap, so I was feeling very confident about my first win. Boy, was I in for a lesson. Game 1 I get a "god" draw with mox, bird, portent, 2 land and a crystaline and a wall. didnt get to see much of his deck, but I figured he was playing pheonix when I saw red/blue and a disk. I portent for a winged sliver and its game. Game 2 Somewho he established early control and kicked the piss out of me with a disk and a pheonix. Game 3 It all comes down to the point where he is at 2 and he drops a Lab after disking. Im like "Im dead", but then I decide to use my master persuasion skills and try to counter the lab and get him to use the last of his mana to counter my counter. He sat there for around five minutes THEN decides to counter my counter. I cast a crystaline and its game. ROUND 2 1-0-0 Red Burn/Sligh/Cursed Scroll Game 1 I sit down to find a little kid playing against me. I underestimate him because I automaticly think its a scrub lucking out first round. One lesson I learned was I die to a sligh onslaught. I didnt draw the needed crystline and muscle after getting a fast draw. I guess I burnt out. Game 2 After siding in worship, Im dont have a worry in the world, besides not drawing it. I draw 2 portent, mox, 3 land, and a crystaline. I cast the crystaline on turn 1 and get out the worship on turn three after some major portents. He quits. Game 3 SEE GAME 2 ROUND 3 2-0-0 Bob Mahr Tolarian Blue (!!!) Im feeling pretty cool, sitting at like table 4 then I see who Im playing. Bob Mahr, who I might add is playing the best tolarin version Ive seen. I set down my meltdown and waisting disease tech (I HATE tolarian blue... who made this deck??!!), hoping for some luck. GAME 1 I get a fairly decent draw and he sinks me out for the kill. GAME 2 I have mana for 2 counters (I might add I didnt draw one of my ten side cards) and he wastes one of my blue sources and goes for the kill. I tap it for a mana and try to catch him on the before/after attack thing for laughfs. No bob, I didnt think you were stupid. :P ROUND 4 2-1-0 Tolarian Blue ( :( ) GAME 1 The person I was playing against gets mana screwed. I get a great draw, with three counters to back it up. Three phatty muscles show who's boss. GAME 2 He gets a good draw. I get a better with 2 energy fluxes and a interdict. All you have to do against tolarian with this deck is get out a early creature, smack em down a little, then counter all the card drawing possibilities. After the game, he shows me hand of hydroblasts. He thought beings I had meltdown tech, he thought Id side in meltdowns. Head games are fun. ROUND 5 3-1-0 Rouge Team Member (Adrian's freind...sorry man, forgot your name) Counterpheonix GAME 1 He gets mana screwed. Not much excitement here. GAME 2 He gets a poor draw, and trys to get me on the cantrip errata from portent. Nice try, man. :P He does manage to cast a disk after laying a turn 3 ice flow (to which I responded with a crystaline). It gets countered. I draw a muscle after having one in my hand. BEATINGS!! ROUND 6 Red/Sligh/Cursed Scroll PHAT!! 4-1-0 I do have to thank Phat for the lovely antiquities stripmine to which he kept life totals on. He gave it to me at the pizza place after the tourney for a "good job" at top 8 token. GAME 1 I win with a crystaline, two muscles, two victuals, a winged and 2 wall o' draw on the table. GAME 2 Phat probaly could of won this one if weren't for a few mistakes he made. First, I drew a bird, 2 land, mox, crystaline, portent AND worship. I keep (duh!) and he goes first. He cast fanatic and my bird starts shaking. Poor dude. I cast it anyway and have a mox and 1 land and a crystaline out and portent for land and none in sight. Humm.. well, hope for some and it comes. He could of shattering pulsed my mox during upkeep like he was gonna, but decided not to. I cast worship after already having the crystaline out. Worb helped so much during this game. It bought me the time to draw a land. Sorry, man! He was one of those people you didnt like to beat because he was sucha cool/nice guy. :( Now, I decide to draw to go to top 8 going 5-1-1 becuase my tie breakers are great (thankx to adrian for help on this one :) and I go to make it official. When the round starts, my opponent takes ou this deck and starts shuffling. To make matters worse, he's playing tolarian blue. ROUND 7 Tolarian Blue 5-1-0 GAME 1 I get a early creature and apply beatings with help from his ancient tomb. Counter his needed time spiral. Game GAME 2 He goes first with a 1st turn chill. Thank-You Meltdown tech!! I did have a pyroblast, but I save it. Its still handy. Then, he casts the second and third chill. Funny. I still had mana to cast it after having two energy fluxes out. game Well, I go into top 8 with 6-1-0 Record. I face my nemisis tolarian blue and he beats me with nothing eventful happening, except me drawing a few interdects. Ponzo red (I think that was the name, a rouge deck made by the guy who I beat round 5) won the day, with bob mahr making second. A very fun and memorable day. Thankx to all who made it possible and to the DOJO for a person stuck in the boonies of Viroqua to keep in touch with the cometitive magic world!! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
