Subject: Ma State Tourney report Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 12:16:17 -0800 (PST) From: preston garica To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com [TOURNAMENT] Hey, Well it all started late Friday night before the Tourney in Boston… I was on mIRC most of the night Playing with the deck I was going to play at the states with… I was working with a few things… like should I use wasteland… Goblin bombardment….Sonic Burst. I decided that Kindles were better then Sonic Burst… So the deck ended up looking like this: 18 Mountain 4 Cursed Scroll 4 Kindle 4 Shock 4 Incinerate 4 Ball Lightning 4 Jackal Pup 4 Ironclaw Orcs 4 Mogg Fanatic 4 Goblin Patrol 1 Sonic Burst 1 Goblin Bombardment 4 Goblin Raider SB: 3 Havoc SB: 3 Meltdown SB: 2 Torture Chamber SB: 3 Rathi Dragon SB: 4 Pyroblast I didn't own all the SB cards… so I borrowed them from the person I went with(Tom Shea, the owner of TJ's Collectibles in Milford mass.) When I went to bed, I knew I need to wake up by 7:00 am, I woke up around 8:15, so I didn't get breakfast… what else is new? I got up, showered(Witch, I might add, a lot of my opponents didn't do sadly) So I got a ride from my friend who would get us to TJs and the Tom would get us a ride into Boston. When we got there… I got the cards I needed, Asked everyone what I should do to my deck, when they all said Take out Flunkies and put in Raiders… I finial did. Before we left, the owner of the store asked me to put on a different shirt, it said "Team TJs" and purely advertised the store in Your Move Games. Everyone who was good was in Rome… so I felt good. We stooped for Taco bell, and went to Boston. We weren't the only ones… it was me, my friend(he shall remain nameless, Tom shea, Tom Senical, Mark White, Francis Burk(I don't like him, at my first tourney, he beat me in the finals… now he just sucks, yes it is a HE), Will(He's a 13 year old, he's cool) Brain "Whatever" Lynch(sp?)He did really well, T4, he lost to another academy, Ken, and Dan Norcross(yeah, 2-5 baaabY!) I think that's it… This was my first time in Your move games… Its ok, but no place for a State Championship, Toms Store holds more people then this. We just drafted in a corner away from everywhere else until it started… BTW: Francis Burk was playing a academy with 2 strokes, 2 MoMs, 1(!!!!) academy, 3 windfalls, 2 powersinks, everything else artifacts and Islands… Needless to say he dropped after going 1-2. Round 1: Vs Jeff Madgi CounterPhenixo. Before I sat down, Brain told me he was going to wipe my ass, he was a regular Your Mover type. Game 1: Turn 1 jackal does A LOT of damage… I burn him the rest of the way except 1 life… He Brings me to 6 while I keep on holding on to Burn spells, I cast 6 spells, he counters all but the last one, and I win. Game 2: I bring Early beatdown, But a PHAT BIRD doesn't like that… I Burn him to 1 again… He then applies Lethal Beatdown… Game 3: (Look at game 1, almost identical, throws in a Energy Field) I win 2-1 We("Team TJs") Find a little room on the side and we all talk about our matches… Most of us won. Tom gives me some candy… and the next round starts. Round 2: Chad E. Playing Trade/Geddon Game 1: I Basically sit back and play 8 lands, find out he has geddons, lose =( Game 2: Forget he has geddons, play 10 lands, BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =( Both games he wall locked me and the turn I get a scroll, he Top Decks a geddon. Bye now it's dark and I final know that it's going to be a LONNNGGGG night, 70 min rounds, and there are 7 of them. We also Figure out what it takes to make finals, 5-1-1=( Round 3: Jermey someone, playing a Great Whale, Whetstone messy thing… I was expecting Corpse Dance, after the match he told me he didn't have any. Game 1: I Get a GOD Hand, it was something like Jackal pupX3, Ball Lighting, 3 mountains, I draw burn, He mulligan down to 5, He basically scrubed out. Game 2: Pretty good hand, expect only 1 lands, but that's ok cause I have lots of 1 casters(Jackal Pups) He Sbs in Douse, I told him he should play chill cause It would of wrecker me… but no. I win, he gets mad saying random swears…. Nothing happens in between round other then trading… I get 2 more survivals, I am happy =) Round 4: Willard Geoff, Playing TU Game 1: He goes of second turn Game 2: I get 3 pyros, cause I said draw, only 1 land… he gets a first turn Chill, I end up getting enough land, hold him off… he still wins =0 Bye now I am sad, I can't make the finals, I really don't care… I don't have anything better to do with .90 cents so I don't drop. Round 5: Tan Talory, playing Survive/Recur Game 1: He gets whale, I lose, but got him pretty low… but not good enough. Game 2: I Apply firm beatdown, He try's to whale combo, I pyro the whale in response to him casting recurring… Burn all creatures… I win. Game 3: I was soooooo close, he goes to -3, he then thinks out a plan, gaining 2 life per creature… sacs them all, deaths, does it again, judge calls time, I give him the win cause I am really nice… : \ Round 6: Other guy(that's what I wrote down =)) playing Merfolk with Cataclysms Game 1: BEATDOWN City, I win. Game 2: I muligine down to 4 cards, but I get a first turn Pup, it does 12 damage, but he brings down a chill after I cast my Pup. He finail gets his Catacylsm, but I was ready, he cast it, in response I Pyro the Chill and I was holding 3 lands… I win again. Round 7: I Yougen(I am really old so I can say he was young =)) Playing WW Game 1: I get scrolling fast and win… Game 2, I muligine down to 5 looking for a scroll… I get it, I Get scrolling third turn, no Armor, no way to stop scroll, I cast no creatures, but I scroll him to death. Bye now its 11:00 pm, But one of our guys is in the finails(Brain) He makes Top 4 and loses to another acadimy, I play a few other people… We get FREE Pizza for staying, some of my friends play a game with the owner where the Buy a pack, anit a card, and the owner opens a pack… who ever has the best card takes it all… they got 7 people in one game and a Meekstone won… Another game it was Mind Twist vs. Balance… I would say Mind Twist, but balance got it. We end up hanging till 2:30, we go home, I give back the cards I borrowed. I got my 4th Survive, so I am happy =) All in all 4-3, my friends all did better with 2 5-1-1, 3 5-2, and a 4-2-1, but the rest scrubed out completely =) Considering my rating, I proble went up 10 points… I Made the right meta game, just I didn't play any of it, so most of my SB was CRAP!!
