Subject: Chicago Regionals Date: Tue, 19 May 1998 08:10:12 PDT From: "Sla Yer" To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Hello all this is Dustin Durbin coming to you with a tourney report from Team Dead Puppy which as of yesterday changed its name to Minions of Elf Girl, as for the members of the team here they go, what they were playing and how they did: Dustin Durbin (aka SLAYER)-White Weenie- 5-1-3 Jacob Krecji (aka Cup)-Counter Sliver- 1-2 dropped Alan Papka (aka Monkeyboy)- Megrim/Anvil- 2-2 Dropped Jason Forgotyourlast name - WW/r- went 4-5 Tim Bonion NO SHOW- bastard Ok now I'll tell you how my matches went: 1st Round: Bill Cox playing mono blue with Phantom Warriors Game one if he would have attacked when he first brought out the Phantom Warrior he would have won, I win through a shadow beat down though. Game two goes pretty much the same way, cept he's hosed early I win quickly 1-0 2nd Round: ???? playing a Pestilence deck I don't know how he won his first found but I beat the hell out of him easy. Both games all I see was lots o land and Drudge Skeletons from him. 2-0 3rd Round: Nick Brooks playing Counter-burn This deck gave me hell first game as he kicks my ass with Shard Phoenix. Next two games go a lot better for me as I pull off close wins 3-0 4th Round: Sean Zloch playing WW This guy is also playing white weenie cept he's playing Bottle Gnomes and Venerable Monks (what the hell) they are what saves his ass though. WW against WW is so boring. He wins, I win, He wins :( 3-1 5th Round: Leonard Richardson playing Slivers He is suprised that I don't know who he is, I learn later that he is the defending champ from last year, I got really freaked out when he asked did I have a random number generator (dice). Oh well I won, 2-0 against him, pulling 2 Wastelands both games. I then go complain to Todd Hansen and Ken Roth saying that since I beat last years champ, that I should be this years champ, the disagree. Oh yeah and Leonard didn't have his hat on. Oh I was also freaked when he knew what I was playing before I even opened my box. 4-1 6th Round Jason Woodburn playing Tradewind Control Team C&C is one of the dominate forces in this area. The games are kinda boring. 1st he gets me Tradewind locked, then he kills us both with Earthquake. Then I win the third. This tie didn't help either of us at all. 4-1-1 7th Round Robert Castro playing 5CG 1st game he makes a stupid mistake that cost him. 2nd game he drops an orb that I can't handle and I can't pull any of my 4 disenchants or 2 Aura's, Third game I pull disenchant when he drops orb but he follows with gloom I die. 4-1-2 8th Round Michael Krumb playing WW He bitches about playing a bunch of white and losing to it, mine was no exception he lost. He was a cool oponent though. 5-2-1 9th Round Andy Hicks playing Sligh Jacobs mom (aka my ride) is here I must play reall quick which causes me to lose really quick. I should have beat Sligh, but like a jackass I keep my 2nd game opening hand of 3 Wasteland and an Orim, Samite Healer, like I said Jake's mom was threating to leave. 5-3-1 So once again I'm good enough to get a lot of DCI points but not good enough to win anything now for some funny stuff and general comments: Ken Roth trying to kill Alan Papka (aka Monkeyboy) when Alan won't stop asking for a pen. Todd Hansen for trying to say no one could win the 1,000 dollars playing mono white if they had artifacts, putting us in a Republican headquarters, trying to give out a trophy with the '98 broken off, handing out Homelands to the top 8 and just being a psycho James Lee for being the coolest judge I have known in a while, this guy is awesome. The cool Watermen brothers Pete and Paul for being just generally cool, should start calling these two Mario and Luigi. And even though Ken Roth hates my whole team he is still groovy in my book.
