Disclaimer #1 I dont hate women. Women are cool, half my frieds are women. If I talks smack about a player its because I dislike the player not because I dont like their sex (see game 8 for details). Disclaimer #2 Stalling. I disdain stalling, I think people who stall are scum and should be punished. However It seems I and my team mates see stalling different than other people. If you are locked down and your opponant decides to deck you are you stalling, no, you are killing them via deck. Stalling is taking an exsessively long time to make your plays. If you lock someone and they don’t concede and 60 minutes later they run out of cards thats their problem. If my opponant takes massive time to decide to say go with 2 dark rituals in his had then they are stalling. After a big break from magic I decided I would play at regionals. So I bought one of my friends collections who was getting out. After a bit I of trading I hade a nice 5CU. Jack Stanton Tony Lau and myself tested and we found it to be solid enough to play. So we pack on doen to regionals. We arive about 8 the night before, go to Mind Games and chill for a while before we crash for the night. The next day we get up about 8 and get on over to the tournie. We’re about an hour early, so we register and wait. The event gets rolling about 15-30 minutes late, pairings go up, then the computer crashes for 1 hour. We go to the mall eat and return to see postings up. Round 1 Dyan DeMott Pheonix Mono Blue Controll Dyan said she was a new player, and it kinda showed. She let me cast most anything that wasnt a wrath or a counter. She was cool though and I had a good time playing her Game 1 Oh the excitement of controllon controll. Land go. Land go. Land go. I get whisper gong so I have more cards, thus more land thus more counters. I start to wisdom and have more counters that I can cast than she has cards in hand. I realise I have the lock so I wait for her to concede, otherwise I figure Ill just deck her with gaes blessing. Well she never concedes so the game goes 63 minutes. We each use about 3-4 minutes to side bar and suffel. Gmae 2 1 land. Mulligan to 6 0 land mulligan to 5 she lays a land as time is called. Matches 1-0 Games 1-0 Round 2 Thomas Vera Colorado Springs Counter Hammer Game 1 A coll guy here. We were talking about the long drive and what not. I felt bad that he didnt realise to concede but hey his problem. He beats on me pretty good with a rootwater hunter and some direct damage even getting me down to 4. But I clear his creatures and start whispering. He could have had me but he forgets to recall the hammer. I get wisdom action and I have controll as all the topdecks are lands and I just get gerrards and blessings. Well I wait for himto concede or I deck him. He concede with 2 carsds left in his deck. Side In warmth hydro blasts and sacred grounds (for the miners he ran standard). Game 2 Once again he gets me donw low with direct damage, to 3 this time but Idrop a wrmth then gerrards to 12 next turn.. I get a second warmth soon after, he knows its over but keeps playing just in case. I recursion my gerrards and gian life and time is called soon after. Matches 2-0 Games 2-0 Round 3 Tim Rivera Lasw Vegas 5CG Tim was a nice guy and a good player, it too bad he didnt clear. He was even cool enough that when in game 3 and Im off in lala land, I put all 4 cards under after I impulse, after a bit of explaining (he thought I put two in my had but then I explained it) he let me go grab the one I wanted. Game One He beats on me with some creatures but I hold him back. In the meantime he gets eaten alive by citys of brass. Eventually he goes to 8 and I just thunder him out because I think hes going to go for it in a few turns, that and a river boa was beating the tar out of me. Side in sacred grounds and perish. Game 2 He beats on me with a fast rush. My walls decided to hide somwhere toher than the top of my deck so I am forced to wrath prematurely, he leaks and I pay it so he leaks again. DAMN! Well we all saw it coming. Creature geddon. I concede next turn. It tuns out the had 3 mana leaks opening hand Game 3 I play trashy bad this game. I guess I was still relling fromt he last one. I screw up and pitch a disenchat so he orbs, I monkey it away but he gets to drop stuff because I had to tap down to 2 mana. Eventually he gets out a boa and my wraths are assholes. He guildmages me and boas me down. Mathces 2-1 Games 3-2 Match 4 Sean Braughton Boisie B/R Burn w/ pheonixes and some beatdown. Sean was the nices guy I played all tounie. He was in 2-1 also and so we were bummed that one of us would put the other out, sonce we were both Idaho people so we get next to zero sanctioned tournies. The whole match was rather enjoyable, aswe just relaxed talked, and played what majic was designed as, a social game. I was by far my most enjoyable match of the tounie. Game 1 He beats on me early but my walls hide me. Well I get Wisdom, but he has stonghold so I star jonesing for my wastend. Eventually I find it and nail the stonghold. At the end of my tun he tutors. Histun he drops A SECONS STRONGHOLD. Well the process begins again, but I also start dissipating his creatures. Eventually it shows up and he concedes. Game 2 I get him locked pretty fast. And we play to the timelimit because who would concede when their down 1-0. Matches 3-1 Games 4-2 Round 5 Matt Mortenson Pheonix Taskmaster/Bottle Gnome Necro I know that I can not loose or draw untill round 8 when maybe I can draw so Im a bit nervous. This guy was an ass hole let me make that very clear ASS HOLE. We sit down and he takes the optional shuffle, which is fine, but he brutalizes my cards. If I optional shuffle my opponats deck I pile shuffle or gently overhad shuffle it. I do not cruch my opponts deck. Beyond that he was annoying as hell, saying sure after every thing I do in this snott-ass tone of voice, but that I can live with his conduct in the third game I could not. Game 1 He sees I’m playing controll and Figures, "What do I need life for?" After He slips a necro by he drpos massive life. Well the roling thunders do him in. Game 2 Bad draw, I have to mulligan and still my draw is lame. He beats the tar out of me with a taskmaster. Oh darn Game 3 He Beats me down to 3 but I get controll and wkisdom upto the mid 30s. I have total controll. He is playing very slow, so I call a judge They watch him. 5 counters and he has 4 cards in hand. I Lobotomize him and he has 2 disks and 2 rituals, so grab the disks. A few turns later he draws a disk that I missed. He calls a judge and we both get incompitance warnings. Well we keep going and I lobotomize him again, now he has 2 drains and a corpse dance in deck as threats. I’m recursioning thunders and blessings, and Im going to kill him. He is looking at graveyeards every other trun and adjusting land. They call time and I request aditional turns. He gets smart ass, and says, "Well, if your deck was good enough to win in time this wouldn’t be an issue." Well the judges say no, and Im seeing red. I storm out of the hall and blow up. I’ll admit I over reacted, anybody sloping me for blowing up, fine, I deserve it. But this pirck stalled he knew it, and he gloted about it for rhat he can eat shit. After words Jack Stanton talked to the judges and they admited that he was dead in 3 or so turns, and that he had stalled, but they didnt know about the extra truns rules in a stalling situation. Matches: 3-1-1 Games 5-3 Match 6 Kieth Ouellette Vegas 5CB Forgoton Orb shadow beatdown Probobly the best player and deck I faced all day, and a nice guy to boot. Kieth told me after the match that they had made that deck to bet Donias, which made me feel a little better. This was in all a very good deck, it seemed to have mana troubles occasionaly, but was still smart. Also the sideboard was slick, I saw him get smacked around by Sammy in Semis game 1 but 2 and 3 the side board just raped sammy. Game 1 Slayers beatme down and he gets a winter orb out. Im thinking its allover but I wrath and topdeck a wisdom. Getting me back in the game. He keeps going and Im hoping a dis or monkey will show up. He gets another slayer out and a hunter, but I wrath. Im still feeling threatened due to the orb but he conceded. Afterwords I asked him and he figured it would be along game so Hejust figured he would go on to game 2. Game 2 I double mulligan and Im in deep doo-doo. Slayer and hunter walk past my walls. Worb hut too. Game 3 OUCH! He gets an early worb and while Im struggling to cope with his creatures he GLOOMS MY ASS! 7 for a wisdom or wrath. I die horribly. Matches 3-2-1 Games 6-5 Round 7 Sam Corona Kiberly ID Sligh This guy didnt seem to be hapy to play 5CU, and had the art of concession down. It kind ticked me off that he called the deck stupid and boring. I think the Donnias is mad smart, even if it was completely prepped for. Game 1 His creatures just cant break through the wall of blossoms, but he does brun on me pretty well. But gerrard shows up, he concedes after I gerry and wrath. Game 2 Gets me down to 1 but I drop warmth and wisdom and he knows he cant do it. He concedes in a flurry of disses on my deck. Matches 4-2-1 Games 7-5 Round 8 Rob Scubowski Vegas 5CG This is when all hell broke loose. I sit down and from the moment my ass hits the chair he’s talking shit. Well I just shrug it off figuring he’s an ass and its no big deal. He tells me how he got warned for marked cards last round. When I cut him I see a major white line almost a crease on his top card, and just mentaly note it figuring if problems occur I can call for a deck check. Game 1 HE beats on me with queers, and its looking dismal, Im also getting sick of the rudeness hes shooting at me, so I call for a judge and ask that his deck be checked for marked cards. They find one but don’t warn him. Rob askes for one judge to stay and watch the match which is fine. Next turn I topdeck wisdom and then do the same next turn so Im at about 24. I have conroll, and figure he’ll concede. We’ll he doesn’t but his beligerance gets worse and worse. The judge keeps giving me that kind of "I know he’s being an asshole" look, and finaly I trun to the judge and say "Give him a warning, just warn the bitch." Now I knew I had screwed up and would get an unsportsmanlike conduct warning, but that should be it. Wrong. Before I go into this let me explain my conception of the word bitch. Where I come from, and with the people I hang with it means, jerk, or whiney persson (as in bitchey). I did mean it as an atack on Rob, but as meaning he nwas being a prick. We’ll some lady turns and says something like "Did you call me a bitch?" I reply "No I called scrubbowski a bitch." Her: "Well I think you mean it as he’s an member of an inferior sex. I haven’t heard you call your opponts lipdicked bastards." Me: "Would you like me to call him that?" Her: "I’ve heard you call women that all day, you’ve been saying oh those arazona bitches all day, you must have lost to one and are taking out the fact that you are an inferior plyer on women." Now if you scrool back to game 1 you can see the account of my only game against a women. I had called my 5th round opponant a bitch, but it was nto ment as he was a member of an inferior sex. I also called him any other profane name you can find this was not misoginy it was rage if flet toward him. I continue, "We’ll im sorry if you don’t like my anguage, I guess you don’t have to watch my match." At this time her husband sits down next to me and says, "We’ll you’ve offended my wife so you’d better apologiise." Me: "Ok, whatever im sorry." (apology number 2) Him: "No you dont say whatever to my wife, I think we nedd to step out side." Me: "Oh, thats nice, but I’m in the middle of a match, besides I came to play magic, not to debate feminism or fight." I appologise may more times but every time the husband seems to get madder and the wife too. We’ll they keep harassing me the husbad continously threateng to kick my ass, the judges just watch and eventually tell everyone to chill. At one point Rob left while these people were going after me. Well Rob comes back and asks for my deck to be counted. At this point I am thuoghly pisses and I sya I’m going to concede, the judges uge me not to, even while the dude who was threateing to kick my ass (to give you an example of how absolutly rediculous he was), sreams "NO NO! He said he conceded!" We’ll I come up missing a city, I thought it was odd how rob left and came back requesting a deck check, but Im not going to make any accustaions, because I just dont think Rob is that low (He may be an ass, but not that big an ass). We’ll I get a loss for game ! and we finish game 1 I kill him slowly. At one point this kid was cliaming I was stalling for roling thundering his creares and just a little to Rob, but Get real, Im going to tap out to burn an opponant I know has mana leaks, what ever… I win that one and we shuffle and mulligan the time away. Rob and I shook hads and appologised to each other after the game, he was actually realy cool, it was just as tony called it, "To pissed of pepo;pe getting paired at the end of a long day." Mathces: 4-2-2 Games 8-6 After this game it seemed everyone had heard everything but the truth. The place was all a buzz with tales that I called arazona women bitches, and ever thing else. Well this is my story, and if you ask Rob he’ll tell you the same, I called him a bitch nobody else at that table. A word of advise to people before you stick your nose in something, before you freak out over something, before you threaten physical violence, GET THE WHOLE STORY! I chill for a while watchign Sammy go to semis and we leave, after a long day. Props: Sammy, you da man! The only MOA player to qualify. Also you saved my ass finding that city for me. Whats more the Jerry Spinger tape is way cool. Kieth Oullette: Best player there IMHO, smart deck, nice guy. Scrubby: I told ya I’d prop ya, I aint mad at ‘cha Sean Braugthon: Its too bad when Idaho had to put Idaho out. Hope to see ya at state. The judging satff, even though you didn’t give me the extera turns, you guys handled that whole round 8 situation great. Slops: The computer: crahes suck Matt Mortenson: You know I had you beat, and you know you stalled. More over your punk-ass coments are rediculous. My deck bad, dumb-ass plying taskmaster necro… The lady from round 8: If you don’t like what I have to say fine, don’t watch me play. If I call my opponant a bitch that is between Me my opponant and the judeg, NOT YOU. You had no purpose in sticking your nose into my affars, you had no purpose in treatening to call the DCI, there was no point in spreaing lies about me to the other players. I honestly ccan’t figure out what you were doing other than trying to piss people off. I never said one rude word to you that whole day, I don’t know why you did. Your husband: You stuck up for your wife, I can respect that, but you should have gottent he whole story first. I never spoke to your wife all day untill she spoke to me in round 8. Moreover , there was absoultly no need to threaten me, you asked for an apology and you got one. Im over here apologising for things I didn’t do. If you think that’s being rude to your wife, then we have different concepts of rude. The kid who said I was stalling round 8 while down 0-1. Get a clue, why would I satll down a game?
