Subject: My Verdaridegeddon deck-Funny, Deck Related, tournament report, ect Date: Tue, 19 May 1998 01:45:24 EDT From: Pronigious To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com I originally built this deck as a joke. I was looking through my trade binder (thinking about a modified stompy deck that my sister was playing with 1 verdant force in the deck as a surprise card) when I saw the card NATURAL ORDER! (insert exciting music here). So I thouht WOW! I could use this card to bring out a third turn Verdant Force that didn't require black, hee hee. As I said this was susposed to be a joke. But I only had 4 llanowars, 4 birds, 3 rangers, and 3 wall o roots, 4 NATURAL ORDER (insert exciting music), and 4 Verdant Force. So I thought how 'bout add some odl school charm to the deck and play some armageddon for after the force is dropped (you guys must think I am insane), then I thought hey what goes with Quiron ranger, Armageddon, and lots o tokens? Tradewind Rider! That's right Tradewind Rider. I added some Man o' wars for some shadow control (they proved infinitly more usefull as the deck progressed) and becuase I had some cool looking man o' wars (remember this was still susposed to be a joke.) The deck went 8-1 at its first tournament. (notice the lack of laughter now.) Then stronghold came out. And I added some mask of the mimic. I went 7-2 the next tournament. In one game I had, 3 verdant forces out by the upkeep of my opponent's 3rd turn. But I felt that the deck was two fragile (I pulled an original 3 main deck slieghts to handle perish ,terror, banishing, dream tides ect. to add the masks) I didn't want to put the slights back in, so I overhauled my deck pretty minorly and pulled 2 wall of tears, 3 mask of the mimic for 1 man o' war and 4 mana leak (there was no previous counter magic). After this I was only losing games to a draw of over 4 land in my oppening hand (except to Bloom, the people in my area, Baltimore, are very good at Bloom) so I pulled 2 of my 22 land (with 11 green creature sorces and I DONT count rangers as mana sorces) and I added a wall of roots and a disenchant. I would have rather added 2 wall of blossoms, but I didn't have them. At DC regonals I went 6-3-0 and my last loss was becuase I am a crappy player (final round) This was the deck 4 Verdant Force 4 NATURAL ORDER (exciting music) 4 Birds of Paradise 4 Llanowar Elves 4 Wall of Roots 3 Quiron Ranger 4 Tradewind Rider 4 Man o' War 4 Mana Leak 2 Armageddon 1 Disenchant 2 Animate Dead 3 Brushland 4 Gemstone mine 6 Forests 4 Islands 1 Swamp 1 Plains 1 Mountain SB 3 Pyroblasts 3 Emerald charm 3 Sleight of mind 2 Propaganda 2 Gaea's Blessing 1 Hydroblast 1 Disenchant Here's how regonals went. 1st round I played a Donias 5cU and lost 0-2 to two hands of 5 land 2 cards 2nd round I played a tradewind deck, and lost 0-2 to two hands of 5 land 2 cards **at this point I was ready to throw in the towel, but decided to stay in for kicks** 3rd round I played modified Bottlenecro won 2-0 didn't take a point of damage 4th round I played red green scroll won 2-0 didn't take a point of damage 5th round I played White weenine won 2-0 didn't take a point of damage. **at this point I really wished I shuffled better durring the first two matches** 6th round I played sligh, finaly took some damage down to 11 the first game and 9 the second, won 2-0 7th round I played Justin Schnieder playing one of those really fast black decks. I won the first, Lost to a perish in the second, and won the third. 8 the round I played mono blue and crushed it 2-0 didn't take a point of damage **my record at this point was 6-2-0 with 12 wins 5 losses, I was feeling very good** 9th round I played a modified counter sliver deck. This guy was very enjoyable to play with. I lost the first game to man o wars against Verdant forces, won the second to a good draw, and lost the third. This is why I lost the third game: He had two slivers out and a lagacy's allure in play with 5 counters. I had nothing on the table and a Llanowar Elf and 2 Natural Orders in my hand and A Pyroblast (He had made a VERY well placed perish). My dumb idiot self cast the elf before the pyroblast, letting him take the elf. I didn't draw another green creature. He sliver-beat me. Good deck. I was still laughing about how this was susposed to be a funny deck, and how I did good. The I modified it to make sure what happened in the first two round dosn't happen again, AND I added some cards to miimize useless cards in my deck. (eg. Disenchant sucks because I don't care about scroll, and most people will never see their disk in play, and if they do I can come back very quickly, Hydroblast sucks 'cause I have yet to loose to ANY sligh deck to anything but a sucky draw (won a couple of those...): yes I will take challengers :-) It now looks like this 4 Verdant Force 4 NATURAL ORDER (exciting music) 4 Birds of Paradise 4 Llanowar Elves 4 Wall of Roots 3 Quiron Ranger 4 Tradewind Rider 4 Man o' War 4 Mana Leak 2 Armageddon 2 Wall of Blossoms 2 Animate Dead 2 Brushland 4 Gemstone mine 6 Forests 4 Islands 1 Reflecting Pool 1 Plains 1 Mountain (btw this is against Bloom, I can get read mana after a Nat. Balance. not necessary and monstly meta-game) SB 4 Pyroblasts 3 Emerald charm 3 Sleight of mind 2 Propaganda 2 Gaea's Blessing (btw this is anti Zwi, Donias 5cU, and Sylvan Pursuit decks) 1 Jester's Cap (aganst Donias 5cU (PULL THE WRATH OF GODS!), Bloom, Zwi, and Tradewind) Things to remember when playing. 1. Always drop a 3rd turn Order unless playing against Tradewind or any Bounce deck, then drop a tradewind (you'll have lock) 2.Sac Rangers Before Elves, Elves Before Birds, Birds before Walls 3. Geddon Early, Geddon Often even if you don't think you should, if you have 2 walls out, geddon when you draw it (if you can't order) 4. Sing a silly song every thime you get a saproling token (I sing a song that goes: to--ken token token, a dance helps to) 5. Play this deck like you are having a good time, most likely after the 3rd or 4th force, your opponent will be laughing with you. 6.NEVER play a ranger first turn unless it is your only green creature. 7. Whe playing sligh drop all of your creatures as fast as possible so they can't kill them all and you can order (Verdant Force *ucks up sligh) 8 Use man o' war as a spell. it is your best defense against shadow. it makes the one blocker your opponent has to chump the verdant go away. They are sooooooooooo good. 9 don't forget to get all of your tokens! 10.smile everytime you win 'cause you're playing a verdant force deck. hee hee hee hee. 11. Blame everytime you loose (not often) to the fact that you are playing a verdant force deck. hee hee hee. 12. Pyroblast the Lagacy first, Pyroblast the Lagacy first... ::slaps hand on head multiple times:: 13.If you have an animated force, and tradewind ... and someone is getting rid of your force... bounce the animate dead it's cheaper than a verdant force. 14.going second and discarding a verdant force then ainimating it works amazingly often, and well 15. A better player will win more often then I So this is my Verdaridegeddon (ver-da-ry-da-'ged-on) deck, try it out. My name is Benj "Dumbass" Hamilton E-mail me at Pronigiou@aol.com- if you find something that works better in this deck e-mail me! I'd love to talk about it. "I wish I was a good player, maybe then I could win something!"
