Subject: No. Cali Regionals Report Date: Sun, 17 May 1998 19:39:12 -0700 From: "C-Dog" To: "Kusumoto, Frank" Hello Frank, Joe, and everyone else, This is my tourney report for the No. Cali Regionals, normally I would start with a whole bunch of shit about how the night before was hell and I frantically playtested like mad, and my hotel sucked and shit. However, I didn't playtest frantically, I got good sleep, and my hotel did suck. First lemme tell you about the deck, this should be the first time you have seen it, Casey McCarrell, Terry Don, and myself built the deck approx.. 3 weeks prior to the tourney, and with a little extra help from Joe Ellis it got tuned. Lemme say that this deck was played by 3 people yesterday, one without a board. The 2 people with boards qualified, the one without went 4-2 and dropped. I shall give out the decklist before the tourney report so everyone who just checks the net for decks doesn't have to read it. The Deck is called: "Peaches, and Stuff" by Strock, McCarrel, and Don 4 Spike Feeder (Peaches) 4 Uktabi Orangutan 4 Wall Of Roots 3 Hermit Druid 3 Tradewind Rider 1 Silver Wyvern 2 Nekrataal 3 Cloudchaser Eagle 1 Bottle Gnome 4 Counterspell 2 Intuition 4 Impulse 4 Living Death 1 Corpse Dance 4 City Of Brass 4 Reflecting pool 2 Undiscovered Paradise 1 Skyshroud Forest 1 Gemstone Mine 1 Underground River 3 Island 3 Forest 2 Swamp Sideboard: 3 Pyroblast 2 Light of Day 1 Disenchant 2 Energy Flux 2 Phyrexian Furnace 2 Gloom 2 Bottle Gnomes 1 Sacred Ground There ya Go "Peaches, and Stuff" by Strock, Don, and McCarrell Now for the report: Round 1 (Some Kid playing Mono-Blue) Game 1 He Desertioned some shit and I Druided a lot, He ran out of counters, I cast Living Death, He died Game 2 Same Thing again he overextends, I death he dies 1-0 2-0 Round 2 (John Murphy (Homey, Murphdog) playing 5 color Black) Game 1 He beats me down with Black shadow and shit, I intuition for Spike Feeder, and then cast Living Death, He gets the beatdown from Peaches. Game 2 I mulligan, he puts out many black critters, edicts my roots, and kills me. Game 3 I mulligan again, but thet's ok, he puts the early beat on me, then boom Light of Day, he boarded out Disenchant, I bide time and kill him 2-0 4-1 Round 3 (Heath Jennings playing White Weenie) Game 1 He puts out the early shadow critters, then Armors a Monk, I bust the Eagle, and take out armor. he hurts me some more, I gain life and live on, then top deck Living Death, and that's game. Game 2 I draw gloom then play it third turn, White weenie cant win against gloom, so that's it. 3-0 6-1 Round 4 (Donovan??? playing 5cG with 4 geddon) Game 1 He puts out first turn Bird, the quirion Jolrael, tang, geddon, I lose Game 2 I shuffle his deck before the game, 5cG cant win if you shuffle their deck. He gets only forests and crap, I make Spike Feeders, and Gnomes, and tangs, then Intuition for Gloom, Gloom, Sacred Ground. He gives me gloom. I cast it, he cant geddon he loses. Game 3 Shuffle again, he cant win. This time second turn roots, third turn intuition for Gloom, Gloom, Ground. Cast gloom, then take over the game this game ends with some Tradewind lock, and the Spiked up Silver Wyvern Beatdown. 4-0 8-2 Round 5 (Eric Marlais playing 3 color Black) Game 1 He gets out shadow critters, and busts up my Hermit Druids. I get the good draw and cast Living Death twice, and win with little critters. Game 2 Mulligan for me, but I get light of Day, I don't draw any Spike Feeders, so I take much quick damage, and then drop the light of day, he still kills me with the double incinerate Shadow Guildmage Tech though. Game 3 Long game, but I get light of Day again, he disenchants it though and beats me, I get Tradewind out and start bouncing, but he still hits me for 2 a turn, I get Corpse Dance Bottle Gnome though so Survive for a while, I need living Death, but he kills me the turn before I draw it. 4-1 9-4 Round 6 (Trevor Blackwell playing Tradewind Geddon) Game 1 He geddons fourth turn, but I recover, and Tradewind lock him down. it takes awhile though but thats ok. Game 2 He gets some mad man o war tech, I top deck gloom 4th Turn, and cast it. from that point on we spend time bouncing each others Tradewinds, time eventually runs out on us though, so I win. 5-1 10-4 Round 7 (Bao Phuc???? playing Sligh) Game 1 He puts out 3rd and 4th turn ball Lighting, and a Cursed Scroll, luckily I drew an intuition, So intuit for Peaches. I tang the scroll, and then he puts me down to 1, the Top-Deck Living Death. I am so good. From then on if you don't know already thats game. Game 2 He gets like conscripts fanatic, fanatic, pup, but I get 2 Gnome, and a wall of roots. Then draw some peaches, and take control see ya baby, goin to origins. 6-1 12-4 Round 8 (David Lewis playing who cares we draw) 6-1-1 12-4 Finally I would like to say that we didn't play off top 8, we were too tired, so there is no regional champ in No. Cali, but if someone objects to that bring it to me.
