Subject: Type 1.X Deck Workshop Date: Fri, 12 Dec 1997 13:17:11 EST From: SnstvePoet To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Red/Green Land Destruction The release of Wasteland with Tempest has rekindled brainstorming of an effective Land Destruction deck. While the current Type II environment seems a stretch for utilizing the wasteland because of the general inconsistency of decks containing numerous non-basic lands to strip away, along with slower creature kill and in-efficient game winners, the Extended environment almost guarantees the opponent to be playing with an extensive amount of non-basic lands rendering the Wasteland a useful weapon. With that said...the idea of an Extended Land Destruction deck has been something I have considered. Not my idea, the deck was inspired from a deck I xeroxed in the old type II environment when 4 Strip Mines were legal and Necropotence decks dominated. My friend Chuck Ramirez gets full credit for the older Type II version from which the current deck was inspired. Enough of the babble..The deck contains: Green 4 Llanowar Elves 4 Birds of Paradise 4 Thermokarst 4 Ernham Djinn 1 Sylvan Library Red 4 Lightning Bolt 4 Incinerate 4 Pillage 4 Stone Rain 1 Balduvian Horde Gold 2 Stormbind White 2 Disenchant Land 4 Taiga 2 Savannah 2 City of Brass 2 Gemstone Mine 4 Forest 4 Karplusan Forest 4 Wasteland Sideboard: Probably blasts, Anarchy, Storm Seeker for Necro decks... This deck totally sucks if.... 1) Your opponent is playing with Land Tax...Despite the temptation of Duals, some Extended decks still utilize tons of basic lands and this ridiculous enchantment. Thus the two disenchants in the main deck, and perhaps two more in the board to complement Anarchy..mebbe emerald charms as well.. 2) Your opponent is using Tithe. Very popular in extended, not popular with this deck...the good news is that it's a one shot deal, and he only gets two land...this deck will probably be able to keep up. Another card that might cause problems for this deck is Disrupt...that would be ugly. Regardless of the meta-game cards that can give this deck trouble, it is still SICK, in that it allows a first turn non-counterable kill with a wasteland OR a first turn elf or Bop and then a second turn kill..not to mention a third turn spell kill AND a Third turn Wasteland....Fourth turn you drop Eazy-E and serve. The amount of burn easily wipes out any creature that your opponent might be able to squeak onto the table, including enemy mana producers. Most decks don't prepare for intensive amounts of destruction...a good draw and you WILL WIN the game, this deck is based on the most effective Land Kill deck I've ever played, and early playtests have proven this one quite effective. Suggestions are welcome...I might try this deck in the upcoming weeks - Mark (Da Funk) Maun
