Date: Thu, 04 Dec 1997 08:48:52 PST From: "Siddarth Savara" To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com I made an enduring renewal deck roughly a month prior for PTLA (fun deck) and it kicked everyone's butt, so since that deck is getting so popular I thought I'd share my decklisting, it is VERY consistent, and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS will win on turn 4. If I feel like playing it safe I'll wait until turn 6 so I can abeyance, but this thing runs 14 (!!!) tutors, and 10 cantrips, so it blitzes through the deck at INCREDIBLE speed. Here's my decklist, if someone who won a PTQ was inspired by playing me a month or so ago, I'd love to hear it =). Sid's Balls of Fire (ok, not fitting, but a cool name for a deck) Tutors (14): 4 Enlightened Tutor 4 Vampiric Tutor 4 Demonic Consultation 2 Intuition (awesome, say you need a bombardment and a renewal and have a argivian find in hand. Pull a bombardment and two renewals, cast the find and grab whatever they dumped that you need). Defense! (13): 4 Arcane Denial (ripper) 2 Disrupt (ripper) 4 Abeyance (ripper) 3 Argivian Find (a "counterspell" of sorts vs. disenchants and hymns. Combo w/ intuition.) Combo (12): 4 Goblin Bombardment 4 Enduring Renewal 4 Shield Sphere Tithe (2): 2 Tithe Land (19): Some people have said this seems like a lot for a combo deck. It might be, but I need 4 mana by turn 4 to pull it off, and I lose my 2nd and 3rd draw phase often because of tutors. 4 Gemstone Mine 4 City of Brass 2 Crystal Vein (good for turn 3 kill with god draw. Considering dropping for a scrubland and a tundra.) 3 Scrubland 3 Plateau 3 Tundra (8 blue, 4 Red, 8 Black, 16 white, 4 artifact) Sideboard (heavily under construction as I never use it): 4 Pyroblast -> DUH 3 Warmth -> (ok, sligh isn't as fast as this, but JUST IN CASE) 2 Disrupt -> Extra permission vs. counterspells, maybe vs. hymn 1 Argivian Find (just board it in after the first game, they'll board in anti enchantment stuff) 3 Disenchants -> I don't know, null chamber could be a problem if someone actually plays it. 2 ??? -> considering playing pyroclasm for more weenie control, not sure as the only deck that is remotely close to fast enough is sligh and I have warmth. I did see this one cool deck involving 4 savannah lions, 4 jackal pups, 4 mtenda lions, etc. My deck still wins on turn 4 :P. Average game goes tutor turns one and two, bombardment turn 3, renewal turn 4, game. 14 tutors means that you will draw 1 or 2 in your opening hand, along with at least one component. The mana is kind of strange, but you can tutor for mana with all except the enlightened tutors. Fastest kill with deck goes like this, happens rather often: Draw: 2 components, A 1 CC tutor, City of Brass, dual, crystal vein and whatever other card you want. Turn 1: COB, tutor Turn 2: COB, dual, bomb Turn 3: Crystal Vein, sac vein, lay renewal, lay shield sphere, game. Sometimes you'll have all 3 components, and you can tutor for the crystal vein =). That's fun too. Considering 1 lotus petal since u can use enlightened for that, but it seems silly. Note: this deck is very consistent because with 14 tutors it runs BETTER THAN PROSBLOOM. I'm dead serious. There are games where I go turn 1 demonic, turn 2 draw the third component and then easily win on turn 4. Disrupt is great because it stops hymns and it stops tapped out opponents from Force of Will. Abeyance is strong in this deck (what a shock!), and arcane is great because they can draw whatever extra cards they want, since they can only play a couple per turn and will die quickly anyway. Tithe is just there in case you have mana problems, but with 8 5C lands and 3 of each dual it don't happen to me too much. Biggest worry is a geddon on turn 4. At one point I had main deck lodestone baubles because that countered geddon and also was a cantrip. Not sure how to deal with geddon situation, just hope you have a counter handy. Abeyance on their turn is nice too =). Well, c ya frank, hope you have time to put this up =).
