Subject: T2 sanctioned in Israel - winner's deck Date: Tue, 30 Dec 1997 14:25:58 +0200 From: Alex Shternshain To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Hi, This is a Sligh deck that won me a first place and an Ancestral Recall in a 50 player tournament. (the first DCI sanctioned tournament in Israel) 4x Mogg Fanatic // As expected, very good 2x Goblin Vandal // Useful in the finals, mostly so-so 2x Orcish Captain // For the 'You are playin with THAT!?' factor 2x Canyon Wildcat // Kindle-magnet 2x Fireslinger // Elf-buster 4x Ironclaw Orcs // Solid, as usual 3x Suq'ata Lancer // Good, efficient, fast 3x Viash. Sandstalker // YES! 1x Ball Lightning // Six damage is always good 3x Lava Hounds // YES! 4x Incinerate // These eight are 4x Fireblast // almost a must 4x Kindle // I now have great respect for this card Land: 21x Mountain 1x Stalking Stones Sideboard: 2x Flashfires 1x Goblin Bombardment 1x Hand to Hand 2x Goblin Tinkerer 3x Pyroblast 1x Boil 2x Dwarven Miner 1x Keldon Warlord 1x Rathi Dragon 1x Shadowstorm I went 6-2-1 in the swiss. My most notable win was over a W/U Control/Grindstone deck, that was specifically designed to combat fast CreatureBurn decks. In the top 16 elimination I played: 2-1 vs. a Green Stampeding WildeBeests/Llanowar Sentinel deck 2-0 vs. a Sligh deck similar to mine (less creatures, more burn) 2-0 vs. a B/U Necratog deck 2-0 vs. a 'Schneider Pox' (copied from the Dojo) deck in the finals This deck is strong because of: a. 26 fast creatures, all capable of attacking on turn 4 or earlier. 14 of the creatures are guaranteed to do damage at least once before biting the dust b. 12 cheap damage spells will sweep the blockers for the first 3-4 turns. c. The mana-curve - I was mana-screwed in exactly zero games. I was mana-glutted in only one game. This deck is so mana-tight, that even when I was forced to cast a 3rd turn emergency Fireblast, I still managed to cast most of the spells in hand while recovering to draw more land. d. Yes, as a matter of fact I did win a game against CoP:Red. And I also won a game against a second-turn Warmth. And against a guy running 3 Honorable Passages standard. Alex Shternshain
