Subject: Type 2 Decks Date: Tue, 9 Dec 1997 16:34:02 -0700 From: Troy Abelseth Greetings! I've got a mono Black deck that I've been tweeking for the last 3 weeks which works very well. Here it is: "Back in Black" 4x Black Knight 4x Knight of Stromgald 3x Fallen Askari 3x Gravedigger 2x Nightmare 2x Hidden Horror 4x Nekrataal 2x Blood Pet --------------- 22 Creatures (+2) 2x Infernal Tribute --------------- 2 Enchantments 2x Living Death 1x Kaervek's Spite 2x Diabolic Edict 2x Drain Life 2x Vampiric Tutor --------------- 9 Spells 2x Ersatz Gnomes (prot Black sucks!) (depending on the local scene, you might want to replace these) 1x Nevinyral's Disk (if I had another, I'd put it in too) 2x Jet Medallion --------------- 5 Artifact 22x Swamp =60 cards Sideboard will depend on popular decks localy. Just last week I played this deck against our state champion with his championship deck (4c Ertog) and did very well. He won,2-1, but the deck worked well and the revisions I've made since have me very confident in the deck. One word of warning, this deck is very expensive to build (12 Rares). The key to winning with this deck is speed. Attack with as much as you can every turn. Once you have a Living Death in hand with enough juice to cast it, chump block and go all out every turn. Once it will gain you card advantage, cast the Living Death. Sidenote: Living Death is a very tricky card. The biggest problem is that all creatures come into play simultaneously, so you need to choose the order of triggered effects after all creatures are in play. For this deck, you will be looking at effects for Gravedigger, Nekrataal, and Hidden Horror. Remember that when you play the Living Death, creatures in play go to the graveyard, then the creatures that were in the graveyard(set aside) come into play. This is not a deck that you can just pick up and expect to win with. Like all good decks, it will take a lot of practice to use it effectively. I accept all questions/comments/suggestions, so please feel free to do so. PS I'm working on getting the cards together to build a deck around Corpse Dance/Teferi's Veil, if you have any suggestions, send them. -- This message has been brought to you by: Troy Abelseth-- tapout@rapidnet.com "The blood on my hands is merely proof of my ambition." --Kaervek
