Subject: Deck for the Dojo Date: Mon, 1 Dec 1997 10:03:19 -0500 From: Chris Hebner To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com About the deck. It's mono-green w/ only 4 creatures. The key to it is speed, it can out race any deck, unless that deck can run off of 1 mana a turn. It's land destruction, and believe me, it's good. Two final thing before the deck: Recycle is BROKEN (too bad people can'y see past Recycle/Alluren), luckily they put in a preconstructed deck so the can't ban it, though they may very well restrict it (Can you say Recycle/Burn?). And Green is not the creature color. Green does much better at every thing but creatures than any other color, it just takes the most thought of all of the colors. Any way here's the deck w/ explinations of the cards after. Deck: Hebner's Shard Fallow Earth 4 Winter's Grasp 4 Creeping Mold 4 Desert Twister 4 Gaea's Blessing 2 Wild Growth 4 Llanowar Elf 4 Nature's Lore 4 Lotus Petal 3 Sandstorm 2 Barbed Foliage 3 Recycle 2 Mirri's Guile 1 Jalum Tome 2 Wooden Sphere 3 Waiting in the Weeds 1 Forrest 15 Explinations: Fallow Earth is basically a time walk in turns 1-4. Winter's Grasp is cheep land destruction, great after a Fallow Earth. Creeping Mold, more LD, plus Artifacts and Enchantments (Tempset=Enchantments) Special note: Typically also a 2nd turn land destruction spell w/ a Lotus Petal. Desert Twister: Land? Twister it. Creature? Twister it. Don't like a perminent? Twister it. I have never not had the man to cast these wonderfully neglected cards. Superb removal spell all around. Gaea's blessing, resuffles the LD (useally Desert Twisters) plus nets and extra draw if drawn early (note that there are only 2, I don't need them untill I have something i the graveyard for them.) Wild Growth: Speed mana, reuseable. Llanowar Elf: Speed mana, NOT AN EARLY ATTACKER/BLOCKER. I would have 8 Wild Growths but you know the DCI... Nature's Lore: Mana (perminent) and pulls a foret out to thin my deck down. At one point I had 4 Grasslands as well, but didn't need them. W/ the Grasslands I had 8 cards to draw forests, and only 15 forests. Lotus Petal: Speed mana, not really needed, but helpful for casting a second turn Creeping Mold. (I'll trade my Lotus Petal for your land). Sandstorm: they ritualed out a pump knight? Flying weenie problems? Sandstorm. Why in God's name don't people play this? Barbed Foliage=perminent Sandstorm. Or perminent Sandstorm x3. Recycle, used to get out of a lossing situation. Also allows for massive amount's of LD in a single turn later in the game. Makes the deck worth while even on a very bad draw. Mirri's Guile: Allows me to control my deck w/ Recycle and Jalum Tomes. I don't need to draw cards, just get past the stuff that I don't need. Jalum Tome: See above. Also helps tremendously on a bad draw. I've tried Jayemdae and Emmisary Tomes. I'll take my Jalum any time over those two. Wooden Sphere: These artifacts are excellent ways to take care of left over mana, and make good life gainers (great if your opponent also plays that color). In addition, they help stave-off burn and weenies if the LD is slow. Waiting in the Weeds: Finisher card, produces blockers. A generally good card. No disadvantage to me, nothing for you. And it's cheeper than a Snake Basket (and not as vulnerable). Forests: No, I have NEVER been mana screwed with this deck. W/ 11 first turn sorces of mana w/o the forests or Nature's Lore? It works if you actually shuffle. Basic Turn Sequence: 1- Forest(Tap=) Wild Growth/Llanowar Elf 2- Forest(Tap both and elf if applicable)= Fallow Earth/Winter's Grasp 3- (Tap all)= Fallow Earth/Winter's Grasp 4- Forest(Tap all)= Creeping Mold Before you Whine about something in this deck, give 3-4 test games. It works w/ uncanny persistance. Don't be afraid to loose some life to a weenie for a few turns. Remember that life doesn't matter unless you are at 0 (besides, you don't get anything for having 20+ life). Well, A new and original deck (been wrking on it since Ice Age), also one that go up against anything out there right now w/ very good results. Who says noone builds original decks any more? Hopefull the name will stick. The shard refers to the fact that it ins't what people expect from green (GREEN IS NOT THE CREATURE COLOR). The Hebner, well, it's my way of trying to get fame and fortune, foolhard though it may be. Questions/comments? E-mail me. Have fun and remember: It's a game, MAKE IT FUN!!
