Subject: [Strategy]Forgotten Stompy Date: Tue, 25 Nov 1997 15:17:20 +0000 From: Ben Sherliker Newsgroups: rec.games.trading-cards.magic.strategy Hi, well like everyone else I was pretty depressed by stompys demise thanks to perish, and more importantly propaganda. I had all but given up when I decided to put sleights in the sideboard to combat perish, but this needed too much commitment to blue without any blue cards in the main deck. Then, I'll bounce it up through the azores, down off comsat 6(sorry for anyone who hasn't seen waynes world, you're missing out on a great film..) anyway... I remembered about the forgotten orb deck, a deck I really liked, and I thought why not change stompy into forgotten stompy :) Of course it won't be stompy any more(sacrilege I know), but you've got to move on haven't you *sniff* So I added 4 man o'wars, and 4 memory lapses and had 2 sleights and 1 whim of volrath in the sb(not sure about the whim as I'll hardly ever pay the buyback and I don't die to forestwalking creatures that often.. but I only have 2 sleights.) The idea is continual beatdown(no.. really!) using man o'wars to remove blockers and slow them down(my god..such original strategy!) and then to finsh memory lapse a quake, wrath whatever and lay a worb and laugh as they die to the power of memory lapse _again_(cue maniacal laughter fading away in embarassed fashion from austin powers(you can't tell I'm a myers fan can you?)). However I don't know about the land ratio and whether or not the speed of stompy will be completely lost, as I haven't tried it yet.. I have used 4 birds and 4 undiscovereds for blue mana, which I don't think is enough so I'll either add those u/g depletion lands or gemstone mines. I have used birds instead of elves for more consistent mana, hwever it again slows down the beatdown idea..oh well. Another idea I had was to go back to using rogues and harvest wurms, with harrows which alleviates colour screw if I put a couple of islands in and puts land for the wurms to get back..next time (gadget). As a side note, although harrow isn't normally too helpful in getting out of mana screw as it costs 3, in forgotten stompy it might be good as it could easily get 3 mana with only one land out and thus could do with the extra land..not sure though. Anyway, the deck.. FORGOTTEN STOMPY CREATURES 4 muscle slivers 4 rangers 4 birds 1 llanowar elf 4 boa 1 dervish 2 lhurgoyf 3 centaur and 4 of your choice of first turn creature rogue elephant-- vs most stuff, with little bounce or burn mtenda lion-- vs most stuff ,with little blue gazbahn ogre-- vs.lots of control, little burn 4 Man-o-war SPELLS 4 giant growths 4 memory lapses ARTIFACTS 4 winter orbs LAND 4 undiscovereds 2 u/g depletion lands 11 forests SIDEBOARD (not much idea really) 4 emerald charms 3 orangutans 2 tranquil groves 2 sleights 1 whim of volrath 3 hyrodblasts(the one against red anyway) Of course the creature mix is totally variable, and you could mix dervishes and boas between main and sideboard. You will die against first game against propaganda decks, unless you can memory lapse it when they have a slow start and kill them quickly, but 4 charms, 2 groves and 3 orangutans taken out for the worbs and other stuff should give you a good chance after sideboarding Any thoughts can be posted to me and/or the newsgroup, and I'd appreciate them! If this idea has already been thought of by someone(and I'm damn sure it has) then sorry, but hey, great minds think alike :) Ben Sherliker -- When a man sits with a pretty girl for an hour, it seems like a minute.
