Subject: MadGoyf deck, for the Dojo Date: Mon, 17 Nov 1997 08:01:30 -0800 (PST) From: Remus Shepherd To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com This is a little deck that you'd probably want to call 'MadGoyf'. I call it 'The Virgin Larry'...well, you see, if you sac Larry the Lhurgoyf to the Altar, he must be a...oh, never mind. :) In any case it's an interesting new deck design built around a great card, the Altar of Dementia, and I thought the Dojo might be interested in it. 4 Lhurgoyf 4 Llanowar Sentinels 4 Pincher Beetles 4 Quirion Elves 2 Uktabi Orangutangs 2 Emerald Charms 4 Carrionettes 4 Dark Banishing 2 Skulking Ghost 1 Gravebane Zombie 1 Soulshriek 1 Vampiric Tutor 1 Corpse Dance (need more) 1 Coffin Queen 2 Altar of Dementia (need more) 11 Forest 10 Swamps 2 Pine Barrens The main combo is simple: Get out a Llurgoyf and an Altar. Sac Larry to the Altar, and mill your opponent for X cards. Cast Corpse Dance (or use the Coffin Queen), attack with Larry if it seems like a good idea...but eventually sac him again before the end of the turn, milling your opponent for X+Y cards. Next turn, it's X+Y+Z...if you're milling any creatures into the opponent's graveyard, Larry will be getting bigger every turn. Once the combo hits, you can generally mill your opponent's library away within the next 2 turns, depending on how many creatures have seen play. Aside from the super-mill combo, this deck can hit pretty hard with weenies and big creatures, so in a pinch you can just kill your opponent. :) You could mill your own library to make your Lhurgoyfs bigger, but you generally don't want to do that unless your opponent is playing creatureless or has Gaea's Blessings. If your opponent is trying to run you out of cards, you can slow down your drawing by sacrificing the Gravebane Zombie in response to your draw. Big fun when your library has been milled down to nothing, and you have a couple of 20+ Lhurgoyfs in play. A fairly versitile deck. I'll have to refine it, give it an anti-blue sideboard, and try it out in a local tournament. I have high hopes for Larry, even if he is rather shy. :) ... ... Remus Shepherd (remus@netcom.com)
