Subject: NEW Stompy--Divided we Stand, United we Fall Date: 6 Nov 1997 23:18:17 GMT From: jaglom@aol.com (Jaglom) Newsgroups: rec.games.trading-cards.magic.strategy <> Muscle sliver is good for the reasons that many creatures are good.... it has a good power and toughness for it's casting cost... it is a 2 cc 2/2 creature much like Lord of Atlantis without other merfolk, River boa is an especially good creature because it is 2/1 for 2 mana as many creatures are with 2 very good abilities, an evasion ability (islandwalk) and regeneration ... that is why you see river boas in many stompy/5cg/various weenie decks.... an added bonus to muscle sliver is that the next muscle sliver makes them all 3/3 creature so if you only have one they are good, but if you have 2 they are even better.... not too many cards work like this... if you drew 1 Light of day that would be suffiecient, but if you drew 2, you would have 1 useless card in your hand for example... what 1 cc creatures are used in a Stompy deck?? The answer is often these... and the reasons why Gahzban Ogre (2/2 undercosted power and toughness) Basic Mana Elves (1/1 Speeds the deck up, and does damage) Quiron Ranger (1/1 speeds up the deck, good against LD, good w/geddons, good against other creatures, very versatile creature...) Rogue Elephant (3/3 undercosted power and toughness) What 2 cc creatures are included and why.... River Boa (2/1 Evasion and durability.... Islandwalk, regeneration) Whirling Dervish (1/1 Durability and Potential Game winner; Pro: black, +1/+1 each time it damages the opponent) Harvest Wurn (3/2 good with Rogue Elephants) NOW Muscle Sliver (1/1 potential to be many large creatures, all sliver become +1\+1) What 3cc Creatures are included and why Joeral's Centaur (2/2, Very durable has to be block by huge creatures; Immune to targeting and Flanking) making it a steady source of damage NOW Horned Sliver (2/2 Trample, potential to be big, and toher big slivers are trampling) 4cc Luhrgofy (large late game creature, game winner) Sometimes.. Maro (potential to be a large creature) 5cc None really Until Scragnoth came along (3/4 Can't be countered and pro blue; but why not play with karoo Merkats) here is my new take on a potentially good Stompy type deck: 1cc 4 mana elves 4 Quiron Ranger 1 Gahzbaan Ogre (lots of burn around might not be too safe) 1 Metalic Slivers (could get real buff, otherwise just a 1/1 creature like your elves, and will probably be killed anyways, better than something good being killed) 2 Rogue Elephant (lots of burn , could lose his head) 4 Giant Growth 2 Emrald Charm (Watch out for Ganda and Prosbloom, surprise blockers) 2cc 2 Whirling Dervish 4 River boa 1 Karoo Merkat 1 Harvest Wurm 4 Muscle Sliver 4 Winter Orbs 3cc 1 Horned Sliver 3 Joreal's Centaur 4cc 2 Lhurgofy 1 Maro 1 Nature's Resurgance lands: 18 Forests Sideboard: 2 Emerald Charm \ 1 Tranquil grove |--- Watch out for those enchantments!!! 1 Tranquil Domain/ 2 Reap (Power card) 1 scragnoth 1 choke 1 City of Solitude 1 Dense Foliage 2 Halls of Gemstones (good aginst counters, and enchant worlds, and gold cards.... more versatile) 3 Serrated Biskelion This type of Stompy deck could have some serious potential.... p.s. please excuse all the typos "Luck is the residue of design" -Mindes "and I designed it to be lucky..." "A double edged sword is still a sword" The best magic player ever.....
