Subject: [Critique] Extended - Rowen'Bind Date: 5 Nov 1997 15:47:08 GMT From: youngbeard@aol.com (YoungBeard) Newsgroups: rec.games.trading-cards.magic.strategy Here's an Extended deck I've been working on. I'd be interested in seeing a listing for an old Howling'Bind deck for comparison, if anyone has one. "Rowen'Bind" (alpha test version 1.0) Creatures: 4 Erhnam Djinn 4 Llanowar Elf 2 Wall of Roots 2 Skyshroud Elf (the RGW mana converter) 3 Quirion Ranger 2 Uktabi Orangutan Enchantments: 4 Stormbind 3 Rowen 2 Sylvan Library Spells: 4 Lightning Bolt 4 Incinerate 1 Emerald Charm Secret Weapon: 1 Thran Forge Land: 2 Karplusan Forest 2 Mogg Hollows 12 Forest 8 Mountain Sideboard (sort of) 1 Uktabi Orangutan 2 Crumble (shatter?) 1 Hurricane 2 Needle Storm 2 Elephant Grass 1 Emerald Charm 2 Serene Heart Don't know what else. Pyroblast? Notes on the deck: 1. Obviously, the theme is early creature damage, then overwhelm with card advantage (Rowen/Sylvan) and DD (bolts, Stormbind). 2. Has big problems with blue players controlling the Erhnams (at least in the first game). Perhaps I should try Stampeding Wildebeests, or a combination of the two? Or maybe something with G in the upkeep (Ants)? Serene Heart in the main deck? 3. Has problems getting the right enchantment at the right time. Should I replace the Karplusans/Mogg Hollows (I wish I had Taigas) with rainbow lands, and use a couple of Enlightened Tutors? If I do that, should I add other white cards? 4. The secret weapon (I saw it in this group yesterday): Thran Forge + Uktabi Orangutan = Nekrataal. Both are useful on their own, and they make a neat combo. Is it worth it? Let me know. Thanks. Chris
