Subject: 3CW as 4CB Inversion Date: Mon, 20 Oct 1997 09:02:42 -1000 From: Robert D Bull To: fkusumot@IX.NETCOM.COM Due to the rampant growth(no pun intended) and success of the 4CB deck, experimentation in a white counterpart or"3CW"deck was certainly inevitable. The following is a version based on the usage of Winter Orb as a pace setting tool for game play. The base of 14 durable white creatures serves as focal point for this offensive style deck. The non-white spells are kept to a minimal colored mana requirement to enable the deck to run with as few alternate mana sources as possible. Dave Bull's 3CW ___________________ 2 Civic Guildmage 2 Serrated Biskelion 4 White Knight 4 Order of the White Shield 4 Longbow Archer 4 Soltari Priest 4 Man O' War 4 Incinerate 2 Earthquake 2 Disenchant 3 Winter Orb 2 Afterlife 1 Fireball 2 Quicksand 3 Undiscovered Paradise 3 City of Brass 4 Gemstone Mine 10 Plains With 12 color protected creatures and 15 sources of creature removal, the deck is a solid competitor. Some of the choices might seem odd,but through playtesting have proven correct. The Soltari Priests for instance cannot serve as blockers(similar to 4CB's Fallen Askari) but serve as a metagame move on behalf of the dominance of mono red decks and decks that rely heavily on red creature removal. The choice to add Quicksands/Serrated Biskelions is due to the fact that Contagions and Shadow Guildmages can not be present in the deck...thus large creature removal is still possible. The Civic Guildmages in the deck are simply a tool to recycle the 4 Man O Wars or give a sometimes needed bost to the decks 24 weenie creatures.Effective sideboarding can boost this to a tournament winning deck.A typical sideboard might look like the following: 3 Pyroblast 2 Light of Day 3 Hydroblast 2 Cop Red 3 Perish 2 Null Chamber The Chambers serve to fend off the ProsBloom decks, and Perish/Light of Day often can take care of an initial Green or Black creature rush. The typical blasts are just great sideboard cards(and the Hydros kill Wildfires). The additional Cop Reds serve to punish Sligh for even showing up. Some of the decks creatures can easily be replace with possibly Suq Ata Lancers or even a couple of Wildfires.Anny suggestions on improvement or game play would be appreciated and well met.
