Subject: Deck Workshop, T1.X, "The Dragon Reborn" Date: Fri, 24 Oct 1997 11:28:17 -0400 (EDT) From: BOBrienJR@aol.com To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com ___________________________________________ "The Dragon Reborn" is an Extended deck that I built for fun, but I've had a surprising amount of success with it. (Yes, I've read all of Robert Jordan's books. No, I don't know when the next one is coming out.) The deck originates from the old Nicol Bolas/Shallow Grave combo -- obviously devastating, but difficult to pull off. However, with support from Buried Alive, Necromancy, Strands of Night, and Firestorm, I get Nicol in play almost every game. The rest of the deck is similar to a standard Buried Alive deck, so I have a chance if I don't draw one of the Nicol combos, or if it's countered. "The Dragon Reborn" Spells: 3 Buried Alive ("Don't tell me you have the Shallow Grave") 3 Dark Rituals 2 Firestorms (wishing you didn't draw Nicol?) 4 Incinerates 1 Infernal Tribute (card advantage + plow-protection) 3 Necromancy ( + dual lands = permanent Nicol) 2 Shallow Graves (angry Nicol) 1 Strands of Night (wouldn't you pay 2 life and a swamp for Nicol?) Creatures: 4 Ashen Ghouls (to keep Nicol company) 4 Black Knights 1 Krovikan Horror (more plow-protection) 4 Nekrataals (clear the way for Nicol) 2 Nether Shadows 2 Nicol Bolas (can't have too much Nicol) 2 Sol'kanar the Swamp King (Nicol's drinking buddy) Lands: 4 Badlands 2 Bad Rivers 3 Quicksands (flanker / white knight remover) 2 Rocky Tar Pits 2 Sulfurous Springs 5 Swamps 4 Underground Seas I haven't made a sideboard, since I've only played the deck in casual play. The fetch lands help get the duals I need to pay Nicol's upkeep, as well as bring out Sol'kanar. This deck probably won't win you any money, but it's a blast to play. Comments welcome.
