Subject: Ertai / Living Death deck Date: Sat, 18 Oct 1997 01:26:08 -0400 From: Simon Lépine To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Here's my first attempt at a Etai/Living Death deck : I know some cards from tempest could probably fit well in this deck, suggestions are welcome. Here's the deck, with some comments below. Familiar Death -------------- Critters: --------- 4 X Merfolk Traders 4 X Sage Owl 4 X Ertai's Familiar 4 X Man-o'-War 4 X Fog Elemental 3 X Necratog 3 X Nekrataal 1 X Kezzerdrix 1 X Necrosavant 28 critters Other Spells: ------------- 2 X Tombstone Stairwell 2 X Living Death 4 X Anvil of Bogardan 1 X Recall 1 X Charcoal Diamond 10 spells Lands: ------ 9 X Swamps 9 X Islands 4 X Underground River 22 lands 60 cards Comments: --------- Critters: With a total of 28 creatures, this deck shouldn't have problem against other weenie decks. Don't be afraid to block with your creatures and kill them, creatures going to your graveyard is good for you. All you have to do is stay alive long enough to be in ToSt and LD range. And if you're playing against a slower deck or a mana screwed opponent, the deck is fast enough with Necratogs and Fog Elementals to win without ToSt or LD. Merfolk Traders : library manipulation, helps dump creatures and get around mana screw. Sage Owl: see Merfolk Traders + helps you select what the Ertai's gonna mill. Ertai's Familiar: always play him turn 2 or an Anvil if you don't have him. Manowar: no comment is needed about Mr Jellyfish. And almost all the creatures in the deck have a coming into play (or leaving play for Ertai) effect, so it's good to use it on your own creatures too. Fog Elemantal: useful for early blocking / beatdown and makes good Necratog fodder. Necratog: just don't eat all the creatures if you fear instant-removal. Nekrataal: of course. Kezzerdrix: provides surprise beatdown, could be easily replaced. Necrosavant: good against other weenie or black decks, alternative way of winning. The spells are obvious. I know Recall is almost not used anymore, but in this deck it's quite useful. Haven't got any sideboard yet... 4 Chills, 4 Lobotomy and maybe some way to deal with Winter Orb cause it kinda hurts this deck..maybe 4 Memory Lapse, which would also be useful against permission to force a LD out. I'm also thinking about playing some 5 colors lands to put disenchsants in the side. Anyway this deck needs improvement, so comments would be appreciated. Simon Lépine
