Date: Mon, 04 Aug 1997 23:46:32 -0400 From: Rafael Matsunaga Subject: the G deck With so many "intelligent" decks (buried alive, counter *, * geddon) out there, the T2 scene has become quite slow lately. Almost everything in those decks costs 4 mana. (Geddon, Wrath, Icy). The only exceptions seem to be straight burn and some weenies (not so popular now). While those decks struggle to the death, I tried to make a (not so) different approch: I hit, you take. It looks quite weak, but it's fast as hell. Yes, it is a swarm deck, and all creatures cost 1 mana. 4 Llanowar Elves 4 Quirion Ranger 4 Rogue Elefant 4 Ghazban Ogre 4 Mtenda Lion 4 Shanodin Dryad 4 Scryb Sprite 4 Rime Dryad (hey, they're 1/2 for 1 mana and some guys do play with snow-covered forests by "accident" :) 2 Scavenger Folk 1 Mwonvuli Ooze (now that's a funny creature) 3 Winter Orb 1 Bubble Matrix 4 Nature's Resurgence 19 Forest The idea is pretty simple: there is no idea. Just drop lands and punch away. If things get bad (like 2 or 3 first-strikers on the other side), wait until your hand is full of creatures again and drop'em all at once. The first concept of this deck had more than 40 creatures (it was before visions appeared) and no orbs. That version was pretty fast too, but could not make a comeback after a pyroclasm. Now with Nature's Resurgence and Rogue Elefants, the deck got pretty solid. I got 5th in a local tournament last week with a weaker version of the deck (only 1 resurgence, the lack of other 3 proved to be fatal). I couldn't take notes during the tournament, so there's no report, but there were loads of counterposts, 1 buried alive, some necros, and few burns. The latter two stood no chance against any of the other decks. I lost my matches against two counterposts, with early posts followed by wraths slowed down my deck (I really wish I had 3 more resurgences then). Anyway, this is a pretty funny and effective deck. I lost only 4 matches in more than 25 during playtests against several decks. -- Rafael Matsunaga rafael.matsunaga@brasoft.com.br
