Sean O'Brien, as a matter of fact I won 3 (!!!) type 1 tourneys at Origins with my latest version (post-vise restriction of course) Here's the latest version ... 4 Nether Void 4 Strip Mine 4 Icequake 4 Sinkhole 2 Choking Sands 4 Juzam Djinn 4 Knights of Stromgald (should in theory use Orders but I got these signed ;) 2 Gorilla Shaman 1 Dwarven Miner 1 Time Walk 1 Ancestrall Recall 1 Demonic Tutor 1 Ancestrall Knowledge (herein dubbed Strip Finder) 1 Sol Ring 1 Mox Ruby 1 Mox Sapphire 1 Mox Jet 1 Black Lotus 4 Dark Ritual 4 Mishra's Factory (must be Winter) 4 Underground Sea 4 Badland 2 City of Brass 5 Swamps --61 cards ... Sideboard (rarely used) ---------------------------------- 4 Paralyze 4 Dystopia 3 Hymn to Tourach 2 Null Rod 2 Swamp The whole concept of resource denial as an end all to any strategy was my initial game plan years ago. One only needs to play magic for a little while to realize that a "mana-screwed" opponent, is a guppy waiting to be flushed. So this deck evolved, the trick is to make it so fast , and as consistant as possible ... I truly believe the 4 Vise , 3 non-black spell version is the best one ever made ... It does lose out with the inclusion of a third color, why? because it loses consistancy and speed, Vises were fast and 2 colors (really almost one) were consistant. This deck will of course lose to spectacular opponents first turns (a fact of type 1) however on a reasonable draw and going first I didn't lose a match. People often ask what I do about moat? and what do I do about ... The answer is usually , they won't have enough mana to cast ... I've tryed to port this idea to type 2, and had some success with it last summer versus the Necro decks with a R/G land-kill deck , with Stunted Growth , but without 4 Strip Mines the idea of Land-Kill , is best left as a slow down tactic, or for Outpost/Glacier removal. As far as true mana suppression goes Winter Orb and Armageddon are truly the best in type II. Anyway, let me know if you have questions comments etc., Sean O'Brien
