Subject: [DECK] Pink defense (Repost) Date: Sat, 19 Sep 1998 19:45:00 +0200 From: Coutal To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com it has just occured to me that the prevoius post ended up being sent on tuesday ( it was 02:00 wednesday israel time when sent, which was about 18:00 tuesday US time :(( ). oh well. here's a resubmission. heylo, This is my first submission to the dojo, and thus, i have a brief introduction and commenting to make. feel free to skip it and go directly to the deck listing =) i started playing magic about 3.5 years ago or so, the time during revised edition was in print (don't catch me about chronological mistakes). i stopped playing about 1.5 years ago, and only recently returned. because of my physical location, it is nearly impossible for me to reach any viable tournament, or actually be part of a magic community other than online. this limits my enjoyment from the game to two factors: online gaming and deck creation. and so, i would like to share with you my deck creation. i would be more than happy to see people play this deck or anything based on it, as it is what i create it for =) good luck to you folks. now, the deck: Deck name: Pink Defense Deck Type: TSE constructed (rath cycle) Card listing (and comments): 2 Skyshroud Falcon // Flyers are decent, works excellent with wards 3 Soltari Guerrillas // Creature removal, excellent with wards, spells major trouble for weenie or black decks 2 Sonic Burst // tradewind or fat removal, also here for damage capability 4 Flickering Ward // tech :P. aside from normal usages, blue mode can really trouble blue - return the ward if capsized. double-blue-ward a creature if possible. also serves as enchant creature removal, if needed for winds of rath. 3 Soul Warden // decent creature, spells trouble for most sligh/beatdown decks unless gotten rid of. i actually won a game against a monoblue deck with a double-warded warden, in the course of 23 turns. it was sad =) 2 Soltari Monk // anti-black. not sure about them being here 3 Paladin en-Vec // anti black/red. chosen for defensive capabilities. 3 Master Decoy // chosen for defensive capabilities. 3 Soltari Visionary // those are real good, esp. with wards. gives trouble to many many decks, and can serve as shadow blockers (with wards) 1 Allay // very usefull. could be substituted for shattering pulse... didn't get to do enough testing on this one. 2 Disenchant // plain usefull 3 Aftershock // very versatile, although problematic against sligh/beatdown i think it fits in nicely. 3 Winds of Rath // reset buttons are uncommon in rath enviroment. works nicely with wards. 2 Null brooch // can be used to establish field control 4 Reflecting Pool / 11 Plains /=== mana. 7 Mountain \=== can't live with it, can get screwed without it 2 Scabland \ Sideboard: according to metagame. boils, allays, shattering pulses and jinxed idols may come in very handy. pick your poison =) Playing notes: this deck is controllish in nature, but has some beatdownish capabilities. it should be mostly played as a control deck. if the oppertunity arises, however... =) this deck should be able to neutralize most attacks and slowly beat the opponent down using your creatures, and wards if possible. try to cast creatures when you can ward them immediately afterwards being lobotomized out of your wards is a setback, but it shouldn't happen often, as you have plenty of creatures and more than enough reasons to ward them as soon as possible. the power of protection. =) this deck fares nicely against sligh and suicide black. Living death and Tradewakening decks are somewhat more problematic, but this deck is generally well-equipped in dealing with them (hopefully). most defensive decks tend to be creatureless or not rely on creatures for defense, and in this aspect this deck is this deck's diffrence. the creatures also provide the efficient kill method and allow you a quicker win than with normal control decks, with games taking ages (but you may never know). i tested this deck against various decks, but i generally have the worst luck ever =) oh well =) well... until next time. Gil Bahat Coutal@hotmail.com P.S. comments concerning this deck would be most welcome, as will be changes - feel free to mail me. (you did read the introduction, did you? :P)
