Subject: Halls Of Necrologia Date: Thu, 6 Aug 1998 22:32:19 +0200 From: Joost Winter I've been thinking about the right way to abuse Necrologia, after I decided that it may be not a great card in a black creature deck, but can be great in a combination deck with Cadaverous Bloom or Dream Halls: cast Bloom or Halls, then cast Necrologia in your next discard phase by discarding some other cards, draw all your cards, and then find some way to get your life back (instants only, sorceries cannot be played in your discard phase - oh how great would it be if something like bloom/drain life or halls/wisdom was possible) in your discard phase, and eventually kill your opponent as well. At first it was quite hard to find the right cards, but at this moment I found an infinite 4 card engine to both get your life back as well as kill him (the card which does this all is, surprisingly enough, ebony charm: I believe it is the only instant which both makes you gain life as well as kill your opponent). What follows now is certainly a fun deck, but maybe it can become something good as well... THE PAINT IT BLACK DECK v1.0 4 Necrologia 4 Dream Halls 4 City of Solitude 1 Prismatic Lace 2 Reap 1 Ebony Charm 4 Dark Ritual 4 Eladamri's Vineyard 4 Vampiric Tutor 4 Enlightened Tutor 3 Intuition 3 Impulse 4 City Of Brass 4 Gemstone Mine 4 Underground River 4 Brushland 4 Svyelunite Temple 2 Adarkar Wastes If everything goes right, it can be a turn 2 kill (unfortunately this only is possible if your opponent has 4 permanents). Turn 1: cast Svyelunite Temple - 6 cards left Turn 2: draw, cast Gemstone Mine, Ritual, Dream Halls - 4 cards left Discard phase: discard a black card, Necrologia for 52 - your at -32 life make one of your opponent's permanents black, play reap to get prismatic lace black, make another permanent black, play the other reap to get your first reap and the lace back, make another permanent back, play reap to get reap, the lace and another card back, make another permanent back, and the endless loop can begin: discard a black card and cast ebony charm to get your life back and take one of his lifepoints discard a green card and reap to get back ebony charm, the black card, the other reap and another grean card repeat this until you've won... as you see, you don't lose any cards anymore by doing this: you discard 2 cards, another 2, and get back 4 each time... As I said, the problem here is that your opponent MUST have 4 permanents before you can win, but hey!, the Vineyard is a great card to help him doing so. Another problem that probably will become very big, are counterdecks. I decided to use City Of Solitude instead of Abeyance, because I want to prevent Counters before casting dream halls (countering is much easier with a dream halls out), and green cards are better when it comes to discarding as well. It probably won't be hard to get out CoS fast with all the tutors and the fast mana... Comments are very welcome! -- Joost
