Subject: tradewind deck Date: Fri, 22 May 1998 13:13:52 -0500 From: "Christopher L. Frank" To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Hello, The following deck I recently constructed and used in an extended tourney and I was suprised at how well it performed. Although, I believe it still is missing a vital link to becoming a top deck to beat. It basically uses the same tradewing lock principles as the other decks that I reviewed but I took out white (geddon) and substituted speed (awakening). Awakening gave me two strong positons. First I could double the tradwind ability (return two permanents) and secondly my mana untapped for counterspells on opponents turn. Pygmy Hippo worked nicely then to draw all mana when he untapped on my upkeep so I could safely cast tradewind, etc., Please review the following and send suggestions for improvement. Send comments to cmfrank@wcenet.com. Thanxs! EXTENDED "BLOOMING PERMISSION" CREATURES 2 Pygmy Hippo- (excellent against other permission control decks) 4 Man o War- for what you missed on counterspell 4 Wall of Roots 4 Mishra's Factory- to suck up mana from vineyard 4 Tradewind Rider 3 Ophidian - excellent in midgame- loads up hand ARTIFACTS 2 Disrupting Scepter- gets rid of what you just returned to hand on their turn- another good way to suck up vineyard OTHER 3 Eladamri's Vineyard - had 4 but found 3 works just as well for speed 1 Mirri's Guile- What Sylvan library??? 3 Awakening- the key to this deck!!might trim this down to 2 and put in more interupt- can be out by round two. 3 Impulse- 4 Counterspell 4 Force of Will- element of suprise really works well with this deck 1 Arcane Denial 1 Recall LAND 4 Tropical Island 2 Undiscovered Paradise 3 Gemstone Mine 2 Reflecting Pool 3 Forest 3 Island (4) Mishra's (see above in creatures) 60 TOTAL SIDEBOARD 4 Chill 1 Phyrexian Furnace 3 Hydroblast 2 Jester's Cap 1 Lifeforce 2 Soul Barrier 2 Tormyd's Crypt -extended only I know Some other thoughts I've had to put in this deck would be phyrexian grimoire to start returning all counter ability (suck up eladamri's)- jaymandae tome for T1. This deck can easily be adjusted to Type 2. The whole principle is the awakening-tradewind combo. Again send comments and suggestions to cmfrank@wcenet.com.
