Subject: Deck Date: Tue, 02 Jun 1998 20:10:32 PDT From: "Nick Long" To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Hello all! I made a deck around April '98 which was a very weird deck, played it in a tournament and won. Then i just put it away, and forgot all about it since the people here in Charlotte began to stack their sideboards with cards that simply killed my deck. So the deck was forgotten, until i came across TurboZvi and i remembered this deck but it wasn't quite the same. Then i heard all this hype about Mulch and Hermit Druids, but i wasn't interested in deck lists, they bore me. So all i knew was that there was a lot of hype. Also, SliverDeath was hyped. The pieces of my deck were starting to come together on the Dojo... *mystical*... Then finally the new Zvi post of Wood Sage finally convinced me to try to get this deck posted and shamelessly stroke my ego by getting a new deck named after me on the Dojo, before someone else posted the deck. This deck was surprising, as it contained the ideas behind all the "hot" decks i named, though it wasn't focused on them. The deck was limited by what i had, but if i had all the cards that WotC ever printed, i'd have added 2 more Wood Sages, as the deck was based on the Sages. Also, Tradewinds would have really boosted the deck, but here where i am, you have to give like a dual land for a Tradewind, they're so scarce. Enough with my ranting, heres the deck: Blue ------------------------ 4xOphidian 1xAncestral Knowledge 1xDissipate 1xDream Halls 1xMana Severance 1xWinged Sliver ------------------------ White ------------------------ 1xDisechant ------------------------ Green ------------------------ 4xMuscle Sliver 4xGaea's Blessing 3xMulch 1xHermit Druid ------------------------ Black ------------------------ 3xLiving Death ------------------------ Gold ------------------------ 4xVictual Sliver 2xWood Sage 1xLobotomy ------------------------ Artifacts ------------------------ 4xBottle Gnomes ------------------------ Land ------------------------ 1xSkyshroud Forest 4xGemstone Mine 5xSwamp 7xIsland 7xForest ------------------------ ------------------------ Sideboard: ------------------------ 1xJester's Cap 1xScrangoth 2xElephant Grass(yes i know, i chose it because it was cheaper than Propganda, and i could get it out 1st turn, to prevent Balls, and other nasty stuff before i got my mana base, there's a lot of Sligh here, and I simply chose it, happy?) 2xUtakbi Ortanguan 2xChill 3xDissipate 4xEmerald Charm ------------------------ That's the deck that i played, and it went 8-1 matches, 17-2 games, against 3 Slighs, Senor Stompy, another Sliver deck centered on Queen, a red/blue deck, a deck that attempted to break Intruder Alarm with Bird, Drake, Alarm, and Tims, and a deck based on Contemplation, Drake, Man-o-War,Staunch Defenders, Sun Clasp, Venerable Monk, Capsizes, and more buyback spells. The only loss came to a 3cSligh which got out a Forsaken Wastes on the 3rd turn in both games that i lost to it. I was pretty happy with it, as the people didn't understand it, (never underestimate the power of surprise!) Now, how to play it: I chose *not* to put in Crystalline Slivers because it was a multifaceted deck and they wouldn't know what was in it. So they wasted creature removal on my Slivers and left the Sages alone. This was exactly what i wanted, as it was centered on the Sage/Gnome or Sliver life gain sack/Mulch/Gaeas Blessing/Living Death combo. In one game, I hit 190 life before my opponent conceded. I also would've put in more Mana Severances, but as it was, i had to search and sift with Sages, Knowledge, Blessing, Druid, Mulch, and the Ophidians to get it, then I would remove all the land, and grab the Dream Halls to cast my stuff. Little did I know that it was the basis of TurboZvi, but as i found, card advantage came from my tossing Sliver for Sliver, and as the Slivers were killed, Living Death, then cackle with insane glee as they tried to kill them off again. In one game, I pulled off a insane combo. I had nothing but Dream Halls, Hermit Druid, and a lot of mana on the board. In my hand, I held all 4 Gaeas' Blessings, Mana Severance, and 2 Living Deaths. I cast the Severance, took all the land out, and then Hermit Druided to put the whole deck into the graveyard, then I Living Deathed all of the creatures into play, then tossed a blessing to cast a blessing so i wouldnt run out of cards next turn. My opponent turned pale as he had to deal with 5 5/5 flyers, 4 6/6 flyers, 4 Ophidians,4 Bottle Gnomes and 2 Wood Sages. He immediately conceded, much to my glee. Now, if I were to rework the deck, I would play 2 more Wood Sages and 4 Tradewinds, as the Sages grabbed life gain and milled blessings, or put creatures in the graveyard for Living Death. To put in the Sages and Tradewinds, I would take out Dissipate, Lobotomy, and all 4 Bottle Gnomes to be replaced. Well that's my deck and ideas.
