Subject: Stronghold & Sligh Date: Sun, 22 Mar 1998 19:37:52 -0500 From: da chicken Well, I finnaly decided to throw a Sligh deck together. I've had some Rathi Dragons rotting in my binder for a few weeks, and this was the only deck I could think of to put them in. I sat down and very quickly realized that with the addition of ST, the whole 3cc+ slot in Sligh could be eliminated with minimal loss in destructive capability. Thus, with _only_ 1 & 2 CC cards in the deck (besides my 2 Rathi) it became quite easy to drop to extremely small amounts of land and still be able to consistently GoldFish 4 turn kills. I decided to drop Ball Lightnings entirely. I just hate 3cc creatures with only toughness 1. I also hate First Strikers and Honorable Passage. You must _not_ use Kindle in this deck. Shock is quite superior when you only have 2-4 mana. Shock/Shock/Fireblast. In addition, the odd mana curve means X-spells (Earthquake) are generally out. Bombardment is so strong. Way better than Mob Justice. One result of the odd mana curve is that you will have FAR more threats than your opponent, even if he's playing Sligh. For more in-depth analysis of what this means, see Eric Taylor's symmetry article on the Dojo. He touches on it a little bit. Another odd result is this deck _never_ gets mana screwed. Oh look 1 land. You die soon. You'll never want more than 2 land in an opening draw (unless you get 3 Fireblast). I've only played maybe 20 games, and only 5 or 6 against decent decks (an unfortunate result of my living area). If I were to take this deck to a tourney, I'd probably drop the Dragons and Tongs to main deck the 4 Ankhs. I haven't tried doing this yet, but Tongs don't do much damage and Dragons are very dangerous against blue (Man-o-war). The unsual SB card is Chaos Charm (1 damage/destroy wall/no summoning sickness). The ST walls and Wall of Roots can (obviously) greatly annoy this deck. Swap the Shocks for these if you run into a deck with several of them. I prefer that to changing Conscripts to Digging Teams, but that's just my style. Invasion Plans is just kinda there. I want to try it and see how well it goes off.... I've also tried Song of Blood. I find it too inconsitent even with 24 creatures in a 61 card deck being creatures. I _could_ get turn 3 kills, but it can also push me to turn 5 or 6 due to the wasted draw. Leave the SoB in ErTog where it serves 2 purposes. There is currently no non-basic land in the deck. I'd like to run 1-3 Wasteland, but with 4 Fireblast, 2 Rathi, and only 17 land it is not very wise. Havoc for white. Pyroblast vs Propaganda or Chill (weak, I know). Ankh vs anything that plays decent amounts of land or uses Paradise/Harrow/etc. Comments?
