Subject: New Type 2 Deck: Sylvan Abuse Date: 25 Mar 1998 05:13:04 GMT From: kytep@aol.com (Kytep) Newsgroups: rec.games.trading-cards.magic.strategy Here's a deck that I have been working on. Just recently added 2 Scroll Racks, Brainstorms, etc, instead of Walls of Blossoms and Essence. Current deck: Sylvan Abuse, v.2.0 4 Mulch 4 Gaea's Blessing 4 Impulse 3 Brainstorm 3 Scroll Rack 4 Wisdom 4 Wrath 1 Mystical Tutor 3 Disenchant 4 Sylvan Library 2 Jester's Cap 2 Kaervek's Torch 4 City of Brass 2 Gemstone Mine 8 Forest 8 Plains Some incredible combos in this deck (Mulch/Scroll Rack, Mulch/Gaea's (although I usually hate when I Mulch a Gaea's; I'm trying to THIN the deck), Mulch/Wisdom, Mulch/Sylvan, Mulch/Brainstorm, Sylvan/Wisdom). The idea is to get to the point that you have at least one Sylvan in play, and Wisdom your @$$ off. Then, you just pay the life for the extra cards every turn (Necro-style), and Bless the Wisdoms to recurse. The cards "pay for themselves" if they see two Wisdoms. Even if only one, they only cost 2 life per card (not to mention the cards you already had in hand), PLUS you're not giving up your draw phase like Necro. Scroll Rack is unreal with Mulch. It turns Mulch into a "better Ancestral" most of the time (ie Mulch for FOUR land). Plus, the SR is an alternate path to victory (won't deck yourself, run opp. out of cards). Of course, Gaea's already does this. Caps are there to recurse for decking win, Torches for faster victories. Two of each so there are four "quick kill" cards (ie I don't have to Gaea's deck them) in case of a Game 1 Cap (I can win with only 1 Cap or 1 Torch with Gaea's recursing them). Sideboard will, of course, have to address Blue's countering abilities. Should be no real problem with Green and White: City of Solitude, Hall of Gemstones, Tsunami, Mana Web, Choke, Abeyance, Caps, Lobotomy (6 Rainbow lands Main), plus the splashable Blue counters (Mem Lapse, Sink, Leak, etc). When this deck starts its life snowball, it is sick. You don't worry about extra Sylvans, you usually want to play them and draw FIVE cards per turn. Don't worry about the life; at that stage of the game, you're practically guaranteed to be able to recurse at least one Wisdom per turn. Kill at your leisure... :) Hope y'all like it. Comments/critiques welcome, as always. Dave Sanders
