Subject: Tempest/Stronghold Deck Date: Fri, 20 Mar 1998 10:40:17 PST From: "Paul Artl" To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com I recently won a Tempest block tournament with this deck, and just wanted to see if you'd like to post it: Volrath's Spikes Land (19) 10 x Forest 8 x Swamp 1 x Volrath's Stronghold Black (10) 4 x Revenant 2 x Living Death 2 x Dregs of Sorrow 2 x Diabolic Edict Green (32) 4 x Eladamri's Vineyard 4 x Spike Breeder 4 x Spike Colony 4 x Spike Soldier 4 x Mulch 4 x Wall of Blossoms 2 x Harrow 1 x Constant Mists 1 x Verdant Touch 2 x Hermit Druid 2 x Mirri's Guile I never really made a good sideboard in it, I just threw in 4 dread of nights and 4 chokes and 4 scragnoths and 3 of something else. The deck is basically a large creature beatdown, and is quick to mulch and harrow all land out of the deck. Most of my victories came with a large, mulch and hermit druid infused Revenant relentlessly beating down the opponent for about 10. Dregs of Sorrow is an extremely powerful card with the vineyard, often killing 3 or 4 creatures and giving me massive card advantage. Living death can be combined with the spike feeders to gain lots of life and put all of your spikes into the graveyard for the reanimation. In addition, you can use verdant touch to make their lands into creatures to dregs or living death away. The final way this deck won, and usually the way it beat a red deck, was to stall the game with constant mists while the vineyards keep burning the opponent. Usually, spike feeders kept me alive from any burn, and the wall of blossoms stopped early fast creatures. All in all, a very solid deck that I recommend anybody try out sometime.
