Subject: Wall of Silence Date: Sun, 15 Mar 1998 02:15:00 EST From: Ashram242 To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com So, as I was looking through the new Stronghold cards, I knew that there was a way to incorporate some common or uncommon cards that most people looked over into a tourney-level constructed deck, and I think I found it. Don't let the first impression of this deck fool you; it can actually be very solid, and the look on peoples' faces when you beat them down with a Venerable Monk is worth playing it. The local metagame has proven the consistency of the deck, as it has beaten various styles of type one and two decks built and played by very proiminent players here in AZ. Well, here it is: Type 2 Wall of Silence White 4 Soltari Priest (against Fanatics) 4 White Knights (solic all-around, pro-black bonus) 3 Venerable Monk (don't laugh, he's fun and works pretty well) 3 Youthful Knight (see Venerable Monk) 2 Shamen En-Kor (possibly could use one more) 2 Wall of Silence (intimidation factor is high with one out) 4 Aura of Silence (VERY underrated) 2 Wrath of God (part of the endgame) Black 2 Necratog (one of two major ways to win) 3 Walls of Souls (yes, another one of those wacky walls....) 4 Diabolic Edict (no need to explain) Artifact 4 Cursed Scroll (the other major game-winner) 2 Scroll Rack (important to establish deck order) Land 11 Plains 8 Swamp 2 Wasteland No sideboard yet....I always take more time on the sideboard than the deck, and it needs more playtesting. The deck wins by establishing early board control, then either by keeping board control and killing with a scroll, or wrathing and sending over a huge Necratog. Scroll Rack is used to keep Necratogs and Wraths in the library while building a small horde and lowering hand size. The only deck archetype I've had trouble with iscontrol and bounce decks, as I have little to side against them given the deck's color, and those decks usually run few or no creatures. In some cases, if you can get them out fast enough, you can win by weenie beatdown. Feel free to mail me comments or anything at Ashram242@aol.com Drew Durbin, Team NWO
