Subject: Cerulean Curtain (Blue/Green Lock Deck) Date: Tue, 13 Jan 1998 02:27:35 EST From: Pr Skinner To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Deck's Author: Jeff Lee (I can be reached at Pr Skinner@aol.com) Deck Composition: 60 cards Deck Type: Type 1.5 Blue/Green Lockdown Key Cards: Winter Orb, Icy Manipulator, Mana Web, Deadly Insect, Rainbow Efreet Strategy: The deck utilizes a mix of forgotten orb and steel curtain to lock the opponent down. Early in the game, the idea is to set down a Propaganda and Impulse for a Winter Orb. Play the Winter Orb when the opponent taps out to cast a spell. If it is a creature, it probably won't do the opponent any good if the Propaganda is out. If it is a spell such as a Disenchant, try and counterspell it. Once this is done, you have successfully stolen a couple of turns from your opponent. Play an Icy first before the Winter Orb, if at all possible. An early Sky Diamond will help further your resources to do this. Memory Lapse, Time Ebb, Boomerang, and Capsize are all at your disposal for stalling the opponent until you build a hefty mana supply. Once the mana is in place, drop the Pendrell Mists. All of your opponents creatures will be frozen unless the controller pays one mana. If Mana Web is out as well, then the game is over for your opponent. Capsize is very useful in the mid-game in that it can stall your opponent to no end. It is equivalent to checking your opponent while building your resources. Deadly Insects is the main way of killing your opponent swiftly once board control is achieved. The bane to this strategy is Quicksand. Hence, Rainbow Efreet is able to sidestep this. The decks that give this deck the most trouble are discard decks who rely heavily on Hymn to Tourach and Coercion. One way to remedy this situation is to use Disrupt. Sligh can be slowed to a crawl after sideboarding three Chill into the main deck. Stompy is almost shut down by this deck so no room is wasted in the sideboard for it. Counterpost can almost turn into a bluffing game. What kills the Post is Mana Web, make sure you cast it! Buried Alive is remedied with two Tormod's Crypt in the sideboard. Erhnamgeddon is also shut down because most carry only two or three disenchants standard for artifacts. Countering the disenchant on Propaganda will almost undobtedly spell victory since Armageddon can only hurt the Erhnamgeddon player.
