Subject: The Spoof Date: 17 Feb 1998 02:54:10 GMT From: cth91082@aol.com (CTH91082) Newsgroups: rec.games.trading-cards.magic.strategy Several days ago I posted a Type 2 Weissman Style Control deck, that post can be seen on the dojo, in the deck workshop section. I was very happy to get so much feedback, I had about 15 email messages talking about changes and opinions on the deck. The Spoof is the name given to the deck by a friend. I have decided to write a second article, this will post some changes to the deck plus some additional strategy, for those interested. I got in to this game because of the many strategies that I could attempt to master. I played chess for a long while (although I wasn't all that good) when I started playing magic I liked it from the start more than chess because of the seemingly endless strategies that can be explored. So I am sorry if I bother you with strategical information that you do not want. Anyways, here...... BLUE 4xCounterspell 3xDismiss 1xDissipate 2xImpulse 1xWhispers of the Muse 2xRainbow Efreet BLACK 4xDiabolic Edict 4xFuneral Charms ARTIFACT 4xSky Diamond 2xCharcoal Diamond 2xMind Stone 2xDisrupting Scepter 2xSnake basket 1xJayemdae Tome LAND 2xIce Floe 4xWasteland 1xUnderground River 1xGemstone Mine 12xIsland 6xSwamp SIDEBOARD 2xLegerdemain 3xChill 3xHydroblast 1xDisrupt 3xPerish 2xGloom 1xPauper's Cage The deck has changed from the last post a lot. It now has 26 lands, along with the 8 mana producing artifacts. Many times around the 4th-5th turn your hand will be whittled down to 3-4 cards, during this time you are vulnerable to discard spells, if a discard spell does get through during this time you will most likely lose. So when you lay a second turn mana-fact and a 3rd turn mana-fact, stop tapping out there when facing black, Impulse at the end of your opponents turn when you are coming up on your 4th turn if you do not have a counter. Playing against Pox you do not counter the pox, you counter the Stupor following, or just before pox. Even if you are holding 2 counters and have the ability to cast both, do not counter pox. Save all counters for the Stupors, because if they get through that is when a pox will hurt you, if they do not get through the pox goes off and you come w/ your mana-facts and card denial-drawing abilities and you will have a good chance of winning. The drains will not be big, they never are, but they will be all forced on you due to your lack of creatures. This is ok but it will slowly take down your life making the scroll deadly. Counter the scroll if you can. Second and third game pull Jayemdae Tome and a Dismiss for 2 Legerdemains this card will be a problem for them. It will give them a diamond (although that will help them more than it would most decks due to the fact that Pox forces land to be buried) and you take a Golem, a Sphere, a scroll, or even a mindstone in some situations. Do the same in the third game except remove a Snake Basket for a Pauper's Cage, Evincar's Justice really puts the snakes to bed. On a scale from 1 to 10 the amount of threats Schneider-Pox poses on this deck........ 7 Pox probably poses more of a threat than any other deck right now. I well played counter-burn deck can win the first game a lot. And if a Necropotence hits the table it is usually over, because my removal is limited and with a big necro+disk the creatures that follow usually come in waves of two that never end. Here are some more things I want to say about the new form the deck has taken. 4 Wastelands can be used because of their ability to produce colorless mana, that is the problem with Ice Floe. The deck is how I really wanted it and how I like it, it is all the potent cards the deck is based around and is not watered down as much as it was. The Sideboard will contain a Breathstealer's Crypt if any non-green swarm decks start surfacing around here again. Well that's all I have time to write at the moment, email me with comments at cth91082@aol.com, Bye, CT Hildreth
