Subject: Black Deck Design Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 10:31:03 -0500 From: "Baker, James M" To: "'fkusumot@ix.netcom.com'" Watching the current type II enviroment is quite wierd right now. Decks have appeared where, no longer is card advantage their focus, getting rid of the cards in hand or having several copies of the same card to Curse Scroll with, is the primary focus of the deck, and usually its way to win in the late game. Creature swarm decks of all types are suffering from Propoganda/Capsize/Orb/Tradewind Rider style decks, and the normal massive burn decks burn away same as always. And now lately in my area players have actually started (due to Cursed Scroll) playing with Lotus Vale combined with Winter Orb. I decided that finally massive disruption was needed, at least in my area, in hand size, land denial, and creature elimination to have a fighting chance. 39 Utility, Summon, and Artifact Spells 4 Stupor 4 Lobotomy 4 Diabolic Edict 2 Terror 4 Drain Life 3 Choking Sands 4 Nekrataal 4 Black Knight 4 Knight of Stromgald 2 Dark Ritual 2 Impulse 1 Disk 1 Scroll Rack 22 Lands 4 Underground River 4 Gemstone Mine 2 City of Brass 10 Swamp 2 Wasteland Sideboard 2 Gloom 4 Hydroblast 2 Spinning Darkness 2 Disenchant 1 Disk 1 Choking Sands 2 Perish 1 Snake Basket/Grindstone/Jester's Cap (Depends on what I feel would be a good choice for the day.) Simply put, this deck removes cards from hand, from the deck, and from play while winning through choice creatures/drain life. With 5 Land Destruction, 8 Hand/Deck Destruction, 10 (14 if you count Nekrataal) creature removal spells, this deck disrupts the game fast and early.
