Subject: A deck Iv been working on... Date: Mon, 19 Jan 1998 09:33:26 -0800 From: "Dakkon Blackblade" To: Here is a little deck I have been working on, in play testing it does well, has most of its problems with 5cRed slieght/burn but the with a little work and a good sideboard I think it could do well. The addition of the guildmages (Left out only originally only because I forgot them ) help this problem greatly since my main problem was a quick Ball Lightning. The deck is 5cBlack: Critters (22) ______ 3xNekrataal (3 because I didn't have 4) 3xErg Raiders 4xBlack Knight 3xShadow Guildmage 3x Fallen Askari 4x Man O' War 2x Uktabi Orangutan Critter Control (10) ____________ 3xParalyze 3xDiabolic Edict 4x Incenerate Support/Misc. (6) ____________ 3x Bad Moon 2x Disenchant 1x Scroll Rack Land (22) ____ 2x Gemstone Mine 2x Underground River 2x City of Brass 2x Reflecting Pool 3x Quick Sand 3x Undicovered Paradise 8x Swamp Playing the deck: _______________ When I play this deck I look at my mana curve which is basically 2 or 3, so I don't need a lot of land to accomplish what needs to be done. I lay down a quick creature or two and slowly widdle them away holding off there creatures with paralyze, edict, or incinerate, and nekrataal or bouncing them with man o' wars. When it all comes down I generally have 3 or 4 creatures on the table not overcasting because of WoG, etc, etc. The monkey's help with Orb's as well as the disenchants. Once I get my opponent on the defensive (little to no creatures, and casting to kill them or try to stop them) I drop a bad moon or two 3 2/2 creatures with little out it hard enough but when it becomes 3 4/4 creatures with flanking and first strike it spells D-O-O-M for your opponent. I found the creature manipulation to creature ratio is fine and in most cases I can get some sort of card advantage off of it with the man 'o wars and or nekrataal's. I find the paralyze work's VERY well as a form of creature control in two ways. It stops or slows down an early on-slought and has a great surprise factor. The scroll racks is an awesome card and mainly used in this deck for the quick offensive boost, dropping the land you have been holding on top the deck and grabbing something more useful. I found the over all deck to be strong, but needs a little work I am still working on the sideboard any comments would be greatly appreciated please send them to: dakkon@cosmoaccess.net
