Subject: Tradewind by deckard Date: Tue, 06 Jan 1998 01:26:03 -0800 From: mark axelrod To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com The following is a tourney winning type 2 deck. On Dec 27 I took it to a sanctioned type 2 tourney at Castle Games in Santa Rosa. The tourney was double elimination; I won 7 out of 8 matches, and my only loss was because of a scrub play (turn 3 phid with opponent's allure out.) 34 blue: 3 dismiss 2 dissapate 4 counterspell 2 capsize 2 impulse 2 whisper of the muse 4 tradewind rider 3 ophidian 2 floodgate 3 man o war 2 firewalker tim 1 air elemental 4 propaganda 3 black 1 disturbed burial 2 lobotomy 3 artifact 3 sapphire medallions 3 underground river 2 reflecting pools 2 undiscovered paradise 3 quicksand 12 islands 62 cards total. sideboard: 4 chill 4 hydroblast 2 disk 3 perish 2 energy flux This may be high, but being able to return utitlity cards from the graveyard is a major strength to add to this deck. Lobotomy makes this deck extremely nasty agains pros-bloom & stompy (no orbs? no geddon? gee, sorry.) The strongest part played by lobotomy is the destruction of other control decks. For my final matches I had to play the same monoblue deck twice. In each game, lobotomy played a decisive role when I was able to either remove my opponent's counterspells or capsizes. My last two games ended with concessions after I lobotomized his counters and dropped tim, phid, and tradewind. The strength of this deck is through the creatures; Tradewind, Floodgate and ophidian. When in play together, These three cards can deal with almost any threat in the game except pro-blue creatures such a scraggy. luckily, the sideboard contains 3 perish and 2 disk for just such occasions.
