I myself, am a Level 1 judge. I live in the quaint little place of Anchorage, Alaska and find myself fairly well off. I guess in Mr. Fairbanks terms, I would take my judging as a hobby. I wanted to say that not everything in the DCI's certification program is all bad. Up here, we have just gotten our Level 3 judge, and we have had a level 3 judge up here only once that I can remember. Along with about 10 others, that was when I took the test to become a judge. It didn't cost me anything, the level 3 was kind enough to let me trade for the fee. I took it, aced the test, got an interview, Boom I'm a Lvl.1. I can say that being a judge has greatly paid off for me. I have more than enough Class C events under my belt to be a Lvl. 4: 4 or so Prereleases, 4 or so PTQ's. But, I'm a lowly level 1 (we have had only a Lv. 2 TO forever)...everyone says that sucks. Well, come to think of it, at every event I judge at I get a box of boosters. Hell, that isn't too bad for $25 a year. I get free T-Shirts, a little respect, cards and experience. I can see that judging Pro Events could suck, because of the overwhelming amount of judges there. I'm sure none of then get any true compensation. I can't really afford to take the time to become higher than a Lvl. 2 because of school (finishing up my senior year of highscool), but thats okay. I have no need really. I think all the PT judges should get paid, and compensated, higher then they do, yes. I think that the people just looking for experience shouldn't get any other compensation than the experience. Anyway, somewhere out there, there is a judge who is as happy as me...maybe. -Brian Eddy -- ICQ UIN: 1152716 I hope to live forever...so far, so good...
