Subject: Re: Excuses Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 10:09:38 -0400 From: Dave Matteson To: c_nicoloff@hotmail.com, fkusumot@ix.netcom.com hi cathy, i read your article with great interest, and i'm sure everybody recognizes the situations you describe. i would like to point out one thing, though; sometimes its analysis. you have to take into account the intentions of the person talking to you. i agree that everyone should be a good sport, that's common decency, however, when people are talking about dave price winning because of pairings, maybe some people are complaining, but others might just be analyzing things. i know i personally like to see why the champions of big tournaments win, to me, its an important part of the game. i want to see "how close to unbeatable was the deck? how perfect were the plays? how much luck was there?", to see if i can gather the slightest insight in order to improve my own game. that reminds me of a trend i've noticed in your posts of late, they all seem -- seem, to me, not are -- to be in a fairly sour attitude. i hope they aren't intended this way. the game is healthy and the last two blocks have been amazing. the tournament scene has problems, and there will always be assholes, however, i see no reason to complain in every post. then again, maybe that's not how you intend them to be taken. in any case, they have been mostly constructive, and i thank you for bringing up interesting points. have fun, ...dave
