Date: 22 Sep 1998 00:52:38 GMT From: guru418@aol.com (GURU 418) Newsgroups: rec.games.trading-cards.magic.strategy well Jamie---there is a little lull going on here in GA too----although the weekly touneys still pull in a good crowd and we are teaching new players how to play all the time we are definitely in a lull----but i can give you 2 reasons---- #1 the past Arena seasons--with Unglued----noone cared---the shops didn't even announce what the winning prices were and most players didn't want to spend a lot of money on the cards to get what they needed to build a decent deck---i think this was a bad choice---it was only fun for about a week or so--and the season before that pissed off a lot of people here when we spent our money on horrible preconstructed decks and then halfway through the season WOTC changed the format to T2----WTF !?!?!?! so there was a little grudge match on that note #2---school----you will always find a lull in late summer/early fall----the parents of the LARGE group of players that are in school won't let them out on the weeknights to come play and then they are lucky to make it out on weekends---since moms/dads go back to work if they took the summer off, etc. And i think a lot of people are just burnt out---so with Urza's i think you will see a large jump in people playing again and hopefully we can get back to having good numbers On the PTQ part---yea---there were some low numbers at the Dragon Con PTQ for Rome here and i will find out how the one Sat is since i will go play in the prerelease tourney that is happening at the same place---hopefully both sides will be strong but i don't see it---a lot of kids are scared of PTQ Rome--cause like you said---what's the point---$25 and if i win all i get to do is get an invite to Rome--how am i supposed to get there---the kids can't go and i can't get out of work nor afford to fly there so i won't play it again just some more insight and only my opinion Ralph Dennis collector of all and player of few aka GURU
