Subject: K Value Date: Tue, 08 Sep 1998 01:05:58 -0400 From: Kelly Bryant To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Hi all, I just wanna talk about K values for awhile. They suck! And here is why.... I recently played in a sactioned booster draft with only 12 players, so naturally a low K value. However, Andrew Pacifico and Joseph Crosby, two really good players, pacifico is jss world champ and has a high rating, in fact in type 2 he #8 in world. So the raft is split up into 2 tables, dumb, uneven amounts of peeps. I sit next to crosby and 1 person away from pacifico. After the tourney was through, i had gone 6-1 losing in the finals,to a person i beat in the regular rounds. However, I beat crosby twice!!! and pacifico once. Yet due to the fact that there were not many people at the touney, I will earn dick for points. What, does less people mean the players i played with are less skillfull. No! I beat 2 really good people, one of them twice, yet it pretty much changes nothing about my rating. Ditto to theirs. So they can effectively lose often at local tourneys to people, and do reasonable at major events and keep a good rating. I think that is quite dumb! That is another reason i believe you cannot trust "official" ratings to gauge a players skill. Well anyways later, Fatty WHERE MY DOGS AT?
