Subject: Misc(Issues) Date: Thu, 25 Jun 1998 11:18:29 -0400 From: Jeff Fitch To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com Green: It'll Happen In the halls at Wizards of the Coast you can hear the whispers. The voices carry a distinct sound of hope. "Did you hear about it yet," One worker says. Another replies "No, what?" "Green, they are going to give it power." "Power?" There is were the conversation ends. To find out more you have to go deeper, go to the heart of Wizards. In the Wizards war room. Richard Garfield is standing at a podium, tense. Today is the day of the big announcement, the day Green, the long forgotten color of magic gets its due. "Ladies and Gentlemen I have called this conference to make a very important announcement." The crowd grew silent in anticipation of what was sure to be the biggest announcement in the history of Magic: The Gathering. "Today we will release the first and only set containing cards of only one color." The crowds mouths dropped as this was the moment all magic players were waiting for. "Today we announce the expansion set called Return to the Wild' an all green expansion set. This set will feature many cards that will finally give green players the respect they deserve for suffering so long with mediocre cards." The crowd began to cheer, many wanted to ask questions but Richard Garfield left before any were asked. ********************************************************************** Outside many comic and card shops, the old and young stood in line to get a glimpse at the first ever all Green expansion set. It was pandemonium, security was called in just to calm the situation. "Have you ever seen crowds like this before." "Never, I can't believe so many people are here. Especially since they want to buy green cards." At noon the day of the release the doors to Neutral Ground were opened, allowing a dozen people in the store at a time. Signs were hung up all around the store saying "Limit: 5 packs per customer." It was a necessary precaution, if they were to make it through the day with the 50 boxes they had acquired through WotC. The first person in line was to be the Guinea Pig, if the cards he got were good then more would be bought. People waited anxiously, as he bought the first 5 packs, what would be in them. He quickly shuffled through, noting that while all the cards appeared to be most excellent, the rares were obviously broken beyond comprehension, these would be the ones he would show his fellow players, these 5 alone would make it worth it. Forestheart Djinn: 2GG: Rare: 5/6: Flying. During your upkeep return a creature card you own and is in play to the top of your library or bury Forestheart Djinn. Evergrowing Trees: GG: Enchantment: All creatures you control may block creatures with flying. Discard X cards: Deal X damage to players who control creatures with Flying. Tome of Pax'Il: 1GG: Enchantment: G, Sacrifice a Creature: Search your library for 2 creature cards. Put them into play as though they were played from your hand. Shuffle your library. If one of them is put into the graveyard, bury the other. Natures Barrage: 2GG: Instant: Go through your library, Remove any number of forests and creatures from the game. Deal X damage where X is the total number of creatures and forests removed. Elvish Hero: G: Rare: 7/7: When Elvish Hero comes into play skip your next turn, or bury Elvish Hero. Discard your hand whenever Elvish Hero Attacks. People saw these cards. These were more then just broken, but these were what Green had been waiting for. Direct damage, library manipulation, Big fat creatures, and a way to deal with flying. The people smiled and thanked the Gods of Magic that green was finally getting its just due. ************************************************************************ This article, is not meant to be humorous, but to make a point of how under valued green is. Green has been pushed aside since the beginning of Magic and now its time for the people at Wizards of the Coast to give green cards that are up to par with the rest of the colors. Green Mages should not be ignored anymore, or they will be pushed even further back. It is time to stand up and write Wizards of the Coast and tell them that as a Magic player and a patron of their company you will not take this anymore. Green must get it just due. Only we have the power to change this, so let us ban together as one single Magic Community and tell WotC what we really think. Jeff Fitch "Why are we here? Because we're here. Roll the bones."
