Subject: Fw: letter to Sophist Date: Thu, 4 Jun 1998 09:31:22 -0300 From: "no one" To: Enclosed is my rather "brunt" letter to Sohphist, and I thought it might be of interest to regular Dojo readers. P.S., ya mind running a spell checker on it if ya post it? :) 1 I only play magic. I don'tgive a damn about any other wotc game, nor will I ever. I've got too much time and effort invested in becoming a magic "expert". Why be a newbie in something else. 2 I don't give a damn about introductory or begginer level magic articles. People that would DON'T by a magazine about magic. You become a better player by reading expert level articles. 3 When it comes to new info or wotc leaks (new cards in new expansions), the DUELIST SUCKS. They print what has been on the net for months. Even InQuest and that stupid Scrye have more news flashes. Duelist only prints old news. 4 The SIDEBOARD sucks even more. It is a big waste of paper. I don't know why I even subscribe. I don't care at all about player bios, just decks and strategy. No one wants to read what sealed decks won a tournament, because no one will ever get that sealed deck again. The up and coming tourny reports are often sooooo late that most have passed by the time I ever get it. I'd be happier with a letter telling me of up and coming tournies, then some stupid slick waste of paper coming weeks late. 5 I don't care about the exestential egotistical world-life metagaming dissertations that most articles seem about. Give me deck lists. Why does this deck win, why does it loose. What decks beat it, and what should I side board. Short and simple. 6 No more late articles. "Note, this deck is before the new Abeyance ruling" or "this article written before expansion x was rotated out" On time or not at all. 7 Pay for an electronic news letter on magic? I buy your damn cards. Thats enough. Chalk the costs of the articles writers write as a "marketing" cost. 8 You want more people to buy the Duelist? Then include a free alt art magic cradin every issue. Remember those stupid magic fiction books? NO ONE read them, they only clipped the coupon for the card. I did meet one person once who said they read one of them. He was real embarrssed to let that peice of info out. 9 Harp and hype the Magic PC game, I'd love to see more people play it. It really does rock. 10 Remember Mr. Suitcase? Every thing he ever wrote sucked. Hold him up to the standard of "how NOT to write" Garfield's articles are mega-lame too. If he didn't invent the game....... Sorry I was harsh, but the truth often hurts, Casey Bowser bowser@ime.net P.S. can I have a job? :)
