Subject: Dojo is to competition as Inquest is to casual play Date: Tue, 05 May 1998 19:35:53 -0600 From: crnicoloff@aol.com Newsgroups: rec.games.trading-cards.magic.misc Okay, so I was wrong. The issue isn't, and possibly never *was* about the Dojo. The Dojo is simply a visible target to throw anti-tournament angst at. People who play for fun think people who play in tournaments suck. Oh, and vice versa. Cool. Everyone wants to feel that what they do is superior, eh? But yo, this is short, so listen up. The Dojo exists to serve the competitive players. If you're not a competitive player, why bitch? There's got to be a place for everybody, right? There's never going to be this friendly utopia where everyone just wants to test their thallid deck in 15 player multiplayer games. If you run tournaments out of business, you're gonna wind up with some ex-Pro sitting in your game, ruining everything with his tremendous deckbuilding skills. Since you don't want those people playing Magic with you, let them have their tournaments. If they're after glory, by all means, get out of the way. Remember, they're winning money, but you're winning good memories and fun times. Don't play Magic against a pro if you want to play for fun. Inquest is your Dojo - listen to their advice, build their wacky decks, send in your amazing new card designs. If you want to play and somebody whips out a card-for-card Dojo deck, pick up your cards and walk. You don't want that, don't do that. There's no issue involved here at all. If there's any issue involved here, it's the antagonism of pros by fun players and vice versa. Okay, so we're all a highly elitist lot, and let me tell you, we can be elitist about ANYTHING. Fame? Fortune? Name in the Duelist every month? HAH! You sorry slob, you're a loser with no life who plays a FUN game (got it, it's FUN you moron) for money and cheats the rules and everyone who plays tournaments should GET A LIFE. That sounds remarkably familiar. For what purpose? Just elitist. It shouldn't exist. There's room for everyone. PS - I never saw a "Dojo deck" copied card for card. Some people are builders, some people are tuners, very few are xeroxers. Most just need a kick in the right direction to get their ideas flowing. - Catherine -----== Posted via Deja News, The Leader in Internet Discussion ==----- http://www.dejanews.com/ Now offering spam-free web-based newsreading
