Subject: Help Junior Super Series Date: Wed, 29 Apr 1998 16:35:31 EDT From: LESCARDS To: fkusumot@IX.netcom.com I, as an avid Magic competitor and Super Series enthusiast, can not overemphasize how much I agree with Toby Wachter. Although I play in the Super Series (15 and under no less) I have played on Pro Tour level before, and I constantly feel like junior competitors are being treated as though they are a sort of toddler division of the pro player arena. Whether it is in their EXTREMELY oversimplified explanations in player meetings, or the amount of attention the Super Series receives, it is truly becoming a joke. Most of the respected younger players play on Tour. I particularly agree with Toby concerning Junior name players. Why don't outstanding junior players receive their portion of the spotlight in the Magic scene? And the issue of qualifiers vs. the initial day of open competition is where it becomes absolutely ridiculous. To qualify for New York Eastern Divisional Championships, I had to prove my meddle by winning a qualifier in Orlando. Did I recieve extra money? No, the money I won was spent flying to New York. The presence of extremely inexperienced people who made it to second day was something that I took as a personal insult. I had to qualify for a tournament that your less-than-average scrub made with ease. There is true talent out there that misses these major Super Series because they don't make it past the qualifiers. They are being cheated by Wizards' incompetent treatment of the program. Also, are junior players two ignorant to play limited? That would seem to be the assumption as there has yet to be a sealed deck or limited format utilized. I agree with Toby that having those kinds of tournaments would eliminate the beginner Magic players. Super Series is supposed to be made up of "rising stars" rather than idiots who would never be construed as professionals. Get rid of the beginners, if they wouldn't belong on tour, then they don't belong here. I love the idea of Super Series. However, if it does not experience some reforms in the near future, I will focus my full attention on Pro Tour. I am not the only player that will be lost if changes are not made. Anyone else who feels that they are a young, intelligent Magic player rather than a incompetent child should make themselves known.
