I too attended the Eastern Division Championships. While you mentioned a lot of causes for complaints for the Super Series, I would like to add a few more. I also, heard Wizards explanations that the Junior Pro Tour was being overshadowed. Unfortunately, I don’t see how the Super Series makes us juniors any less overshadowed. As far as I can tell from advertisements and my own experience, all the Super Series Qualifiers were held at the same time and place as the Pro Tour Qualifiers. Even the Divisional Championships were held at Pro Tours for goodness sakes! Seems to me, all the Super Series is, is a re-named, exclusively Type 2, Junior Pro Tour! With smaller prizes (in scholarships no less!), and more levels of qualifiers to progress through! Another problem I have is the way the Super Series season is setup. With its current structure, unless you can get to qualifiers in more than one region of the US, juniors only get a chance to compete during less than 3 months of the year. What the hell! There are four Pro Tours a year, but only three junior equivalents with most juniors having access to only one a year (well, two if you do well at the one that you get to). This means that most of the year, juniors just sit on their asses at local card shops, preparing for that one shot a year. This problem with the Super Series is the one that I have heard the least complaints about but needs some of the most attention. I also agree with you, Toby, that the Super Series should include drafts, not just type 2. But it should also include sealed deck, block tournaments, and all the other types that make up the Pro Tour. Hell, why not even just bring back the Junior Pro Tour! I, for one would be very happy if they did this. As for not getting enough coverage, well, give us some in the Duelist or the Sideboard! Even some coverage on the Wizards website would be welcome. The Pro Tour gets finals analysis and everything. The Super Series doesn’t even get top 8 deck lists. Overshadowed? Well whose fault was that?! Anyone who wishes to respond to this letter, either send it to The Dojo or e- mail me. Sincerely, Dan Elitzer DBE114@aol.com Finished 21st at 1998 JSS Eastern Championships
